is not severe. An alveolar pattern is the more common finding. Pleural fluid (i.e.,<br />

hemorrhage) may be present.<br />

Azotemia very rarely can provoke an interstitial or alveolar inflammatory response.<br />

Hemorrhage or bacterial infection may produce a focal or multifocal alveolar or interstitial<br />

infiltrate in conjunction with uremia. 539 Pleural <strong>and</strong> pericardial effusions have been<br />

observed. Pulmonary <strong>and</strong> pleural calcification may be present with chronic renal failure<br />

(Fig. 2-186).
