Engineering, Maintenance <strong>and</strong> Construction<br />
• Ensure Safety <strong>and</strong> Security throughout the SEPTA system<br />
‣ Advance System Modernization Projects including ATC/PTC, Smart Stations II,<br />
Escalator Modernization, <strong>and</strong> new fire sprinklers at Elmwood <strong>and</strong> Frankford.<br />
‣ Insure ongoing infrastructure maintenance by insuring strict compliance with all<br />
m<strong>and</strong>ated st<strong>and</strong>ards, agency regulations, <strong>and</strong> internal policies <strong>and</strong> procedures for<br />
rail <strong>and</strong> transit safety. Regular inspections <strong>and</strong> preventive maintenance to be<br />
performed in accordance with all codes, regulations <strong>and</strong> OEM recommendations.<br />
Employee IOD lost time to be measured <strong>and</strong> monitored with targets for reduction<br />
established.<br />
• Support the Authority’s Internal <strong>and</strong> External Focus on Customer Service<br />
‣ Support customer service related operating <strong>and</strong> maintenance projects including<br />
railroad snow removal, SL V boarding platform construction, maintenance blitzes<br />
at multi-modal transportation centers, maintenance to elevators <strong>and</strong> escalators to<br />
meet reliability targets, maintenance to revenue equipment to meet reliability<br />
targets, <strong>and</strong> the coordination of maintenance <strong>and</strong> construction activities to<br />
minimize track outages.<br />
‣ Support customer service related capital projects such as the CCT upgrade,<br />
Frankford <strong>and</strong> Callowhill facility improvements, 69 th Street Parking Garage, <strong>and</strong><br />
high level platforms in Amtrak territory.<br />
• Support the Authority’s Implementation of New Technologies<br />
‣ Advance New Payment Technologies (NPT) contract. Complete conceptual,<br />
preliminary, <strong>and</strong> final designs for NPT system elements. Begin acceptance<br />
testing of all NPT devices. Complete final designs for zone offices <strong>and</strong> begin the<br />
initial phase of construction.<br />
‣ Pursue other communications-based technological upgrades including completion<br />
of Green Line CBTC, wireless delivery of real time service information, cell phone<br />
access in SEPTA tunnels, Wi-Fi internet access hotspots, <strong>and</strong> new Asset<br />
Management software.<br />
• Exp<strong>and</strong> System Capacity<br />
‣ Advance projects that support ridership growth including the Elwyn to Wawa<br />
service restoration, Jenkintown parking garage, Croydon Station/Parking<br />
Improvements, Malvern Station/Parking Improvements, <strong>and</strong> the Paoli<br />
Transportation Center.<br />
• Build a Highly Qualified, Versatile Staff<br />
‣ Minimize employee turnover <strong>and</strong> improve hiring process management.<br />
‣ Implement <strong>and</strong> encourage Employee Training by creating a new engineer<br />
mentoring program, elevator/escalator maintenance apprentice program, <strong>and</strong> full<br />
utilization of SEPTA Human Resources SAM Training seminars.<br />
‣ Assist the Division’s Professional Engineers in obtaining continuing education<br />
credits required to maintain Pennsylvania license.<br />
