Capital Improvement Program<br />
State of Good Repair Initiatives<br />
This program is designed to bring transit <strong>and</strong> railroad facilities to a state of good repair. Fiscal<br />
Year <strong>2012</strong> projects included in this program are categorized as follows:<br />
Maintenance/Support Facilities<br />
• Installation of fire detection systems at Bridge Street Shop, Frontier Depot <strong>and</strong> Market<br />
East Station.<br />
• Environmental Clean Up <strong>and</strong> Protection activities.<br />
• Replacement of four rectifier transformers at Pattison <strong>and</strong> Loudon Substations.<br />
Station Facilities<br />
• St<strong>and</strong>ardization of station escalators.<br />
• Train access accommodations for the new Silverliner V railcars.<br />
Track <strong>and</strong> Right of Way<br />
• Track renewal on trolley route 13 along Chester Avenue from 58 th street to 65 th street.<br />
• Route 15 improvements along Richmond Avenue in conjunction with PennDot’s<br />
Interstate 95 Girard Avenue Interchange Construction Project.<br />
Station Accessibility<br />
This project further exp<strong>and</strong>s the network of accessible stations. Additional stations were<br />
selected based on a number of factors including ridership, intermodal connections, <strong>and</strong><br />
recommendations from the SEPTA Advisory Committee for Accessible Transportation (SAC),<br />
including identification of disability magnet sites. Allegheny Station improvements were<br />
completed in Calendar Year 2011. Improvements at Race-Vine Broad Street Subway Station<br />
are underway <strong>and</strong> scheduled for completion in Calendar Year <strong>2013</strong>. Funding for the<br />
construction of an elevator at 15 th <strong>and</strong> Market Streets <strong>and</strong> station platform improvements at<br />
Olney Station on the Broad Street Subway is also programmed.<br />
Station <strong>and</strong> Parking Improvements Program<br />
This program provides for the reconstruction or rehabilitation of transit <strong>and</strong> regional rail stations<br />
<strong>and</strong> terminals, bus/trolley loop facilities, transportation centers <strong>and</strong> parking<br />
expansions/improvements. Program elements include the replacement or rehabilitation of<br />
station <strong>and</strong> loop facility components, such as station buildings, ticket offices <strong>and</strong> waiting rooms,<br />
passenger shelters, canopies, platforms, crosswalks <strong>and</strong> overpasses, escalators <strong>and</strong> elevators,<br />
lighting, signage, <strong>and</strong> accessible paths. All improvements will fully comply with requirements of<br />
the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. Programmed for Fiscal Year <strong>2012</strong> are funds for the<br />
reconstruction of Primos Station on the Media/Elwyn Regional Rail Line; Reconstruction of<br />
Ryers Station on the Fox Chase Regional Rail Line; <strong>and</strong> 69 th Street Station Platform Renewal<br />
on the Norristown High Speed Line.<br />
