Operations<br />

Automotive Vehicle Maintenance – Consists of six operating locations in the City, Victory<br />

in Delaware County <strong>and</strong> Frontier in Montgomery County, <strong>and</strong> the Contract Operations<br />

location in the Germantown section of Philadelphia. These nine locations are responsible for<br />

all aspects of daily maintenance, cleaning, inspection <strong>and</strong> servicing for a fleet of over 1,400<br />

vehicles.<br />

New Vehicles – Oversees the purchase of all new vehicles for the Authority. Manages<br />

the procurement, production, inspection, acceptance <strong>and</strong> contract deliverables (e.g.<br />

spare parts, manuals <strong>and</strong> warranty administration) for various contracts.<br />

VEHICLE ENGINEERING AND MAINTENANCE - RAIL<br />

Principal Responsibilities<br />

Oversees the engineering <strong>and</strong> maintenance for light rail, subway-elevated, <strong>and</strong> railroad<br />

fleets. Responsible for rail vehicle acquisitions <strong>and</strong> overhauls.<br />

Headquarters – Manages administrative, personnel <strong>and</strong> budgetary elements of Rail<br />

Equipment Engineering <strong>and</strong> Maintenance.<br />

Rail Equipment Engineering – Provides engineering support including specifications,<br />

drawings, vehicle modifications <strong>and</strong> system upgrades for all rail fleets. Investigate <strong>and</strong><br />

resolve rail fleet technical issues.<br />

Rail Equipment Maintenance – Performs programmed vehicle <strong>and</strong> component<br />

overhauls of various rail fleets as well as the inspection, maintenance <strong>and</strong> running repairs<br />

of the following rail fleets:<br />

- MFSE M-IV fleet at the 69th Street <strong>and</strong> Bridge Street Car Houses<br />

- Media-Sharon Hill Line LRV fleet at the MSHL Shop at 69th Street<br />

- Norristown High Speed Line N5 fleet at the NHSL Shop at Victory Avenue<br />

- BSS B-IV fleet at the Fern Rock Car House<br />

- Subway/Surface LRV fleet at the Callowhill <strong>and</strong> Elmwood Shops<br />

- Route 15 PCC-II fleet at the Callowhill Shop<br />

Railroad Shops <strong>and</strong> Yards – Provides all maintenance <strong>and</strong> overhaul activities on the<br />

railroad car fleet. The fleet is comprised of EMU (electric multiple unit) cars <strong>and</strong> coaches<br />

(push pull) propelled by electric locomotives.<br />
