Public <strong>and</strong> Operational Safety<br />

Overview<br />

The Public <strong>and</strong> Operational Safety Division is responsible for ensuring the safety of the<br />

Authority’s riders, personnel, equipment, property <strong>and</strong> facilities.<br />

The Division is responsible for the development <strong>and</strong> implementation of cost effective<br />

safety initiatives to promote employee health <strong>and</strong> welfare, the safety of the Authority's<br />

patrons, <strong>and</strong> the integrity of equipment <strong>and</strong> facilities. The Division also administers the<br />

Authority’s Risk Management, Insurance, Workers’ Compensation <strong>and</strong> Vocational<br />

Rehabilitation Programs, ensures SEPTA's compliance with environmental laws <strong>and</strong><br />

regulations <strong>and</strong> regulatory <strong>and</strong> statutory reporting requirements, <strong>and</strong> investigates,<br />

evaluates <strong>and</strong> equitably resolves valid claims against the Authority in a prompt <strong>and</strong><br />

courteous manner.<br />

The Division also directs the acquisition <strong>and</strong> management of Authority-owned property,<br />

including 1234 Market Street headquarters. The primary management role of this section<br />

involves the securing of privately funded leases <strong>and</strong> improvement of station areas, l<strong>and</strong><br />

parcels <strong>and</strong> right-of-way for cash <strong>and</strong> in-kind revenues.<br />
