Working Toward Effective Disaster Response<br />

This 4-hour advanced course focused on key interagency coordination issues among federal agencies<br />

involved in a response of national significance. By taking the course, participants achieved the following<br />

objectives:<br />

• Learned about coordination methods between EPA and the USACE in dealing with household<br />

hazardous waste and the Debris Removal Program Management developed during the responses<br />

to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.<br />

• Explored the newest updates to the NRP and its application to INS.<br />

• Learned the new FEMA Hurricane Consolidated Operations (Con-ops) Plan and how field<br />

implementation affects EPA.<br />

• Discovered the status of the NIMS Implementation Plan and the new Incident Management<br />

Handbook and ICS position-specific job aides.<br />

• Learned coordination issues between EPA and USACE in dealing with drinking water systems in<br />

support of ESF-3 and development of interagency workgroups to deal with similar issues.<br />
