2007 OSC Readiness Training Program Evaluation Report • Not all of the handouts were in the book. (Three responses) • The information online will be more helpful than the course materials. Comments on course name and abstract expectations • I thought it would be more interactive and discuss how to apply skills to an OSC’s job. • I do not feel that the course had a lot of ‘meat’ and much of the information presented was cursory. • Course did not meet its advanced designation. 2007 OSC Readiness Training Program Evaluation Report You Mean There is More than Superfund ... ? Basics of Environmental Statutes Instructors: Earl Liverman, EPA Region 10 Stephen Mason, EPA Region 6 This course provided a basic history and major provisions of statutes that EPA implements, such as the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act, CERCLA, Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act, Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), and Toxic Substances Control Act that are implemented by EPA. Students were provided with the basics on how statutes and regulations are developed. The course provided an overview of U.S. environmental regulations that have been created to control, manage, or modify activities; and the effects of these regulations on the health of human beings and the natural environment. Additionally, the course covered the history of environmental laws, the origins of EPA, and the history of the removal program. This course was of great value to new and more senior OSCs who needed to understand how environmental statutes, regulations, and policies are formulated and implemented. This course was recommended for RSC staff. The course had a good balance of lecture material, visual aids, case studies, and discussion time. The handout materials were clear, legible, and helpful. The course materials will be useful as a reference for my job. This course should continue to be offered at future training programs.
