2007 OSC Readiness Training Program Evaluation Report
• Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, more case studies, electronic data gathering and
site information management.
• Drug lab cleanup issues.
• Electroplaters, risk assessment course.
• Enforcement.
• E-Waste Recycling or how to recoup costs to your site.
• Field trips to local removal sites (a real-time case study!).
• Health and safety.
• How about a primer on ICS?
• How CAA 112(r) can help OSCs.
• I hear the Beyond Hydro-Seeding was great and I would like to have a chance to take it. Keep it!
• I think making available personal protective equipment (PPE), and a session for on-hands use of
PPE might be useful (i.e., qualifying for use of military equipment; use of PPE, gas masks, types
of gloves for comfort/fit, boot styles, outdoor wear gear instead of jeans, DEET vs. “Off”,
working with your buddy to help with identifying sprained ankle, deep cuts, is there going to be a
nurse on site with the safety crew to administer water from the water buffalos... ideas there they
are).
• I think we need a Basic Rad again and a Basic Rad Response for Superfund Sites. Both have not
been on OSC Readiness for several years.
• It would be great to get Web-based tools training (4 or 8 hours). Specifically, some of the tools
developed by NHSRC and NDT.
• May want to consider more contract related courses so OSC/Contracting Officer Representatives
(COR) have an opportunity to earn CLPs.
• Maybe more hands-on type stuff? Or two HAZCAT sessions (the one session filled up too
quickly)?
• More developed homeland security tools course; content of this year’s course was good, but not
enough time to cover it.
• More emphasis with Homeland Security objectives and how that correlates with USCG.
• More focus on response immediately following a disaster, from the viewpoint of RSC.
• More presentations from the NRT Special Forces (i.e., EPA ERT, EPA RAT, USCG Public
Information Assist Team [PIAT], USCG National Strike Force [NSF], U.S. Navy Supervisor of
Salvage [SUPSALV], National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration [NOAA] HAZMAT,
ATSDR ERT); it will illustrate what resources are available to the FOSCs; it is amazing how after
all these years, some OSC’s have never utilized some of these resources!
• More RSC-related stuff.
• More state programs/initiatives/case studies that are similar to federal programs should be
showcased. More waste disposal courses should be offered and include industry representatives.
• Of all the courses, I most enjoyed the “How to Be Nice and Play Well with Others in the
Contracts Environment” course. Very hands on, very educational, and good opportunity for
interactions.
• OSHA certification training or continuing education credits (CEU).
• Planning a removal before you dig HAZCAT and Disposal Options (I would take these, but did
not get a chance to).
• Presentation of all 10 Regional OSC of the year winners and the national notable achievement
winner for OSC.
