2007 OSC Readiness Training Program Evaluation Report • I enjoyed re-acquainting with personnel that I worked with in the Katrina response. I also met people that I have spoken to on the phone concerning issues in their region and the approach to use in Region 6. • I enjoyed this training event. Very impressive. • I know it is difficult and you cannot please everyone, but the venue is important. • I very much appreciate the opportunity to attend OSC Readiness. I have had ICS training and work well with our Region 1 OSC staff, but it is great and useful to have the continued opportunity to meet other OSCs and become more familiar with the people and scope of work. • I was concerned that over 500 participants and the inclusion of the RSC personnel would dilute the training, but this was not the case. Everything worked fine. • I would like to see the training begin earlier in the day (6 or 7 a.m.) so that attendees have a chance to relax and attend activities in the local area at the end of the day. • I would need to have attended another OSC conference in order to compare. In general — classes might be a bit too long — field trips would be nice and informative (really!). • In general, all the training I attended was informative. I would suggest starting all training at 8 a.m. versus 9 a.m., especially for those commuting in the Miami area. The hour later makes a longer commute. On the other end, 5:30 p.m. also makes a long commute. I like the binders and will take all applicable information back to my unit to share. Thanks for the invite. • Jen Grund did a great job, made Gary look good. • On the who do you work for, you have everyone except RERT. It is a slight that continues every year. We had several occasional or non-EPA contractors snooping around looking for work during this conference. I noticed them bothering many. I totally disagree with that. Cheryl Weaver of Docimo Associates attended our RadNET training and was disruptive. She eventually left, but should not have been in there in the first place. • Outstanding week. It is a great time to be an OSC. • Overall a useful training opportunity. One suggestion that I would make for any conference is to run one or two days long so that there can be a half-day. That way folks can get out and enjoy some of the tourist opportunities. • People, Relationships, and Interaction with Incident Management - I strongly recommend not bringing this class back. To put OSCs into groups is unnecessary. Some of these OSCs will be bosses some day and believe it or not the divisions will follow a person. • Perhaps add a session for RSC folks to get together. • Presentations in the dark are difficult to focus on. Is there a way to encourage a ‘standard’ back for PowerPoint presentation that would be better seen with the lights on? • Thank you for inviting me and for allowing me to present. It was professionally done and very informative. Again, state representatives could benefit from future training, as well as our federal partners. • Thanks a bunch for the opportunity to network and train with fellow responders. OSC Readiness goes a long way towards removing barriers to effective response/site management as well as building bridges between EPA/state/local responders for more efficient response/site management. • The class length seemed a bit long — maybe have 2 breaks instead of one during a session. And ALWAYS have coffee available. ALWAYS. • The conference was great and I would have more of the conference turned into either CDs or DVD formats so that it would be easier to take the information home. 2007 OSC Readiness Training Program Evaluation Report • The group/team support at the laptop area was EXCELLENT!!! Those ladies were very gracious, helpful, and just lovely people. Please thank them for the excellent support they provided. • OSC Readiness is well planned and executed. • The Readiness Training should get back to what it was started for, “Training OSCs by OSCs.” We had more non-OSCs at this meeting than ever and half of them went to the beach to play instead of working. • The sampling course and response contracts courses were less useful that I had hoped for. I strongly recommend recruiting field personnel to supplement the Headquarters instructors. Any contracting course should be taught by at least one REGIONAL COR, and any Assessment/Removal course by a FIELD scientist/engineer. • This was a great training opportunity and I am looking forward to future sessions. • Was glad to see we did not have the parade of vehicles, tents, Mobile Command Posts this year! • WELL DONE • While it was useful having the RSC present, I am concerned about diluting the OSC experience exchange (130 OSCs out of 500 attendees). • This was the best Readiness Training EVER! • The session was better organized, but some audio-visual problems with slides did occur. • Always grateful to be allowed to attend!
