2007 OSC Readiness Training Program Evaluation Report
• Sampling and Decon for Biohazards.
• Sediment Remediation Options.
• Shorter versions of ERT oil training.
• Specific decon methods - scenarios for specific chemical /biological agents.... rather than generic
threat discussions. Need to show value in communicating effectively with local communities and
addressing their concerns.
• Steve Mason’s ESF-10 course.
• Swift water, small volume oil spill response.
• The Avian Influenza class is one that would lend itself to a question and answer session with
USDA, Office of Prevention, Pesticides, and Toxic Substances (OPPTS), Office of Water (OW),
Air, and experienced OSCs.
• TRIAD for OSCs. Not TRIAD for RPMs. TRIAD can be used by OSCs if they understand
when, where, and how.
• Vapor intrusion (please continue... it is a growing topic).
• Visual Sample Plan training. Bucket chemistry was always a fun refresher. Maybe there should
be an advanced bucket chemistry.
• With the increased attention on Water Security and Response and the ongoing development of
tools/initiatives, I feel the Water System Response Course could be lengthened to a full day.
• WMD responses.
• WMD responses, what does the EPA do, lab capacity, sampling, disposal, transport.
Comments on topics or courses which should be omitted
• Anything that is not taught by an OSC. I go to these meetings and expect it to be training by
OSCs for OSCs, not to receive a lecture similar to ones I had in college. There should be more
class participation.
• Best Management Practices — simple, the class needs to be revamped.
• Combine Avian Flu and Infectious Diseases.
• Hot-Sites from Friday session.
• How to Be Nice and Play Well With Others in the Contracts Environment. (Two responses)
• Knowing and Using the NCP, find a team that can teach the material; it is very important material
and needs to be taught again.
• I was an instructor (case study) in the “Best Management Practices for Efficient Sampling
Design” course. This course has some great potential if it was to be redesigned for the OSC.
Way too much time was spent with stats. I know of very few OSCs who would spend the time to
do the stats presented in this course. Rather, maybe spend time talking about sampling for a Site
Assessment or sampling during an ER. The main instructor for this course needs to go. This
course could be great if it was geared toward the OSC. Also, this course should be 4 hours, not 8.
• ICS.
• Infectious Disease, not so much the topic, but that version.
• Integrity Testing of Pipes.
• Katrina update....
• Less bio-terror.
• Radiological and bioterrorism.
• RadNET the other radiological course — Air Monitoring for Radiation.
• Sampling Design.
