Assessing Vapor Intrusion from Ground Water and Soil to Indoor Air<br />

This 4-hour advanced course focused on the technical issues that <strong>OSC</strong>s should consider when evaluating<br />

whether vapors from a subsurface contaminant source intrude into inhabited buildings and pose an<br />

unacceptable risk to human health. The course included the following topics:<br />

• An overview of the vapor intrusion conceptual model.<br />

• A presentation on national issues that impact vapor intrusion assessment.<br />

• Case studies in which <strong>OSC</strong>s have evaluated the vapor intrusion pathway.<br />

• A detailed discussion of sampling issues and available assessment tools.<br />

• Mitigation options for vapor intrusion.<br />

The instructional methodology for this course included lectures, case studies, and question and answer<br />

sessions.<br />
