2007 OSC Readiness Training Program Evaluation Report • I thought the format was terrific. • Less serious speakers!!! • Luncheons were well handled and presentations were great. • Make sure to have relevant speakers. • Maybe cover contracting so we can get 1 hour credit. • More decon Anthrax/Avian Flu talk at luncheon. Former plenary session talks would benefit all. Both Avery and Curtis Snook are excellent speakers and their presence should be elevated within the OSC community. We need to do all we can to retain and attract this level of talent to the cause. • Outdoors is always better... weather permitting. (Two responses) • Outside lunch would have been nice. • Overall, very good. Excellent coordination. • The presentation from the guy from Docimo Associates at the lunch was insulting to our EPA responders, IMHO. • The working lunch was great and I would recommend having several during the conference. • They are perfect! • They worked fine. • Very happy with the flow and timing. • Working lunches were great, especially the one with New York firefighter. Additional comments or suggestions • If OSC readiness is expanded to RSC member training, recommend that the conference by organized as separate tracks with several overlapping course in the same venue. Hopefully this would allow for team building and networking, while not diluting the OSC training but providing valuable training for our RSC. This will also ensure that the presenters prepare appropriately for their audiences. • Well, it used to. Not so much anymore. This one really was not for OSCs. It has been diluted with all the Response Corps and such. It has diverged from its intent and effectiveness in the beginning. • Although we invite RSC, Headquarters, and others, we should still target the training for OSCs by OSCs. I am seeing too much training that is not targeted for OSCs. I am also seeing other trainers put an OSC on the panel to do a 30-minute case study just so they can get on the agenda. We need to put the OSC or Readiness Board in charge of how the class is organized, prepared and presented. • It has been sold out. It is no longer a training for OSCs. The focus is on anything but OSCs. The inspiration for the Readiness training was that there was a lack of appropriate intermediate to advanced training for OSCs. Now it has become training for the support corps and the ones prior to that were for the NEW OSCs. I expect the quality and focus to continue to diminish so much so that I can not recommend it to others. • It is no longer about the OSCs, or even being ready to respond. The OSC readiness training was created because there was a lack of courses available for OSCs that were pertinent, and at least intermediate. If the response corps needs training, then train them with pertinent and appropriate courses. • I think we really need to look at this and resurrect and re-energize them or bring back NOSCA so the OSCs can get together and express their main issues problems and solutions to Headquarters and management. 2007 OSC Readiness Training Program Evaluation Report • I really feel this was the worst offering of the 4 readiness trainings that I have attended. We need to re-energize and re-focus the courses to OSC's and not dilute them for others. • RSC should have a separate tract reserved only for them or “Brand New OSCs” with NO ICS experience. There should be 1 or 2 RSC representatives on the Training Board to develop the courses and serve as the buddies for the courses in the RSC tract. It is important that it be combined with the OSC Readiness for the networking alone! • Bigger is not always better! Reduce the number of invites. Some is okay. Less than 40-50 percent of OSCs in a class can be a distraction or pull the class in a direction that is not an OSC concern. Good Job!! • A lot of good new topics. Enjoyed it. • Acknowledge 3 groups of OSCs at opening plenary — if any OSC has passed away dedicate Readiness to that person. Then list statistics of names of OSCs that have retired; then those who have left being an OSC and then name numbers of new OSCs that have come into the program - all by region. • Again, as a presenter, thanks for the support and welcome you gave me. I look forward to working with you in the future. • Amanda Fairley was extremely helpful to me as a first-time attendee. She truly understood customer service, taking the necessary actions to make my attendance worthwhile. • Another successful training event. Wireless internet did not work from most rooms but ERT’s computers were a great addition. • Avian flu was interesting, as was Infectious Disease, even though some information was repetitive in both. Question and answer was great. Air monitoring at RAD sites had too much nomenclature with equipment units-emphasize on what OSC and responders would need to know would be useful. A few more sessions on WMD responses would be good. • Best OSC training of the year. • Do the hot sites first on Monday morning. They are interesting and useful, unlike all the speeches that we had to sit though in that frigid room. That was boring and uncomfortable and made everyone in a sour mood. • Every course should have an OSC as one of the speakers. In the ISB course (other than ERT????) I do not think anyone teaching had actually done any burning????? • Excellent training, thank you. • For future meetings, it would be a good idea to have a ride-share bulletin board for folks going to the airport. • Gary does a great job with this each year. The Training reaches more and more non-OSCs. Three-fourths of attendees were not OSCs. We need to make sure that the courses are applicable to the broader audience. • Good job to the organizers! • Great job as usual! • Great job!! Could Gumbo be moved to earlier in the week? • Otherwise, a great conference and I plan to attend next year! • I want to thank the Readiness Board for keeping oil classes on the roster for so many years! It is important to keep the roots of Office of Emergency and Remedial Response/ER/NCP alive. Newer staff need to learn the basics! Thanks a lot for 10 years! • I am ORD and the options for where you are from and what EPA organization you are in are not there. I am just listed as Headquarters representative.
