Chapter 7: <strong>Land</strong> <strong>Use</strong> <strong>Code</strong><br />

as the principal use to which it is accessory, and all necessary legal instruments shall<br />

be executed to ensure that the required number <strong>of</strong> spaces shall remain available<br />

throughout the life <strong>of</strong> the principal use.<br />

(f) Parking space dimensions and design. Each <strong>of</strong>f-street parking space shall consist <strong>of</strong> an<br />

open area measuring eight feet (8') wide by eighteen feet (18') long and seven feet (7') high and<br />

shall have vehicular access to a public street or alley. Off-street parking shall be properly drained<br />

and must be paved with all-weather surfacing or be covered with gravel and maintained in a usable<br />

condition at all times.<br />

(g) Restricted use <strong>of</strong> parking areas. No junked vehicle shall be parked or stored in public<br />

view on any street or private property in any residential district. Junk vehicles shall be defined as<br />

those that either (1) lack a current license or inspection sticker or (2) are wrecked and/or<br />

dismantled.<br />

(h) Design <strong>of</strong> loading areas. All loading spaces in the I, Industrial District shall comply with<br />

the following design requirements.<br />

(1) Location. No loading space shall be located within the right-<strong>of</strong>-way <strong>of</strong> a public<br />

street. Any loading dock or door shall be set back far enough from the right-<strong>of</strong>-way so that<br />

no portion <strong>of</strong> the right-<strong>of</strong>-way is occupied by trucks or other vehicles while loading or<br />

unloading. The location <strong>of</strong> the loading area shall not interfere with the free circulation <strong>of</strong><br />

vehicles in the <strong>of</strong>f-street parking area. No loading space shall be located so as to block<br />

access by emergency vehicles.<br />

(2) Size <strong>of</strong> berths. The minimum required dimensions <strong>of</strong> loading spaces, open or<br />

enclosed, shall be twelve feet (12') in width by fifty-five feet (55') in length, with a<br />

minimum vertical clearance <strong>of</strong> fifteen feet (15'). Where tractor-trailer units will be using the<br />

facility, the minimum length shall be sixty-five feet (65').<br />

(3) Paving standards. The surface <strong>of</strong> all open <strong>of</strong>f-street loading spaces shall conform to<br />

the requirements for <strong>of</strong>f-street parking areas.<br />

(4) <strong>Use</strong> <strong>of</strong> loading areas. Required <strong>of</strong>f-street loading spaces and associated aisles and<br />

maneuvering areas shall be used for vehicle loading only. No sales, storage, display <strong>of</strong><br />

merchandise (including automobiles), repair work or dismantling shall be permitted in such<br />

areas.<br />

(i)<br />

Driveways and access.<br />

(1) Access required. All required <strong>of</strong>f-street parking shall be provided with driveway<br />

access to a public street or alley.<br />

(2) Minimum driveway width. Driveways shall be a minimum <strong>of</strong> ten feet (10') in width<br />

when serving one (1) dwelling unit, or fourteen (14) feet wide when serving more that one<br />
