Chapter 7: <strong>Land</strong> <strong>Use</strong> <strong>Code</strong><br />

Urban Growth Boundary: The Master Plan Boundary illustrated in the <strong>Norwood</strong> Major Streets and<br />

Future <strong>Land</strong> <strong>Use</strong> Plan and identifying an area surrounding the <strong>Town</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Norwood</strong> that separates<br />

urbanizable land from rural land and within which the Plan anticipates that urban growth will be<br />

contained.<br />

Variance: An adjustment in the application <strong>of</strong> certain zoning district regulations to a particular parcel<br />

<strong>of</strong> property that, because <strong>of</strong> special conditions or circumstances peculiar to the particular parcel, is<br />

necessary to prevent the property from being deprived <strong>of</strong> rights and privileges enjoyed by other parcels<br />

in the same vicinity and zoning district.<br />

Vibration: A periodic displacement <strong>of</strong> the earth measured in inches.<br />

Wall Sign: Any sign painted, placed on, incorporated in or affixed to a building wall, window or<br />

canopy, or any sign consisting <strong>of</strong> cut-out letters or devices affixed to a building wall, window or canopy<br />

with no background defined on the building wall, window or canopy, with the exposed face <strong>of</strong> the sign<br />

located in a place substantially parallel to the wall, window or canopy surface on which it is placed.<br />

Warehouse: A building or portion <strong>of</strong> a building for the storage <strong>of</strong> materials or goods.<br />

Wrecking or Auto Salvage Yard: A yard or building where automobiles or parts <strong>of</strong> automobiles or<br />

machinery are stored, dismantled and /or <strong>of</strong>fered for sale in the open as whole units, as salvaged parts or<br />

as processed metal.<br />

Yard: An open space on the lot that is not obstructed from any point thirty inches (30") above the<br />

general ground level <strong>of</strong> the graded lot to the sky, except as authorized obstructions.<br />

Yard, front: A yard adjacent to a front lot line and extending from the lot line a uniform distance into<br />

the lot.<br />

Yard, rear: A yard adjacent to a rear lot line and extending from the lot line a uniform distance into the<br />

lot.<br />

Zoning Development Permit: A permit issued by the <strong>Town</strong> Planner that allows a developer to engage<br />

in development in compliance with all applicable sections <strong>of</strong> this <strong>Code</strong> and further enables the developer<br />

to seek a building permit that would allow the developer to commence actual development.<br />

Zoning Map: The certified Official Zoning Map upon which the boundaries <strong>of</strong> the various zoning<br />

districts are drawn.<br />
