Chapter 7: <strong>Land</strong> <strong>Use</strong> <strong>Code</strong><br />

(b)<br />
A premises is limited to one identification sign per principal use unless<br />
otherwise specifically excepted in these regulations.<br />
(c) Size: residential use and home occupations - 2 sq. ft. per sign. Other uses -<br />
20 sq. ft. per sign.<br />
(3) Advertising Signs. All advertising signs shall comply with the standards in this<br />
section.<br />
(a) Such signs may advertise the sale <strong>of</strong> products produced or sold on the<br />
premises where the sign is located. Window decals, posters, etc., shall be included<br />
in the area allowance for such signs.<br />
(b) The total area <strong>of</strong> all such signs shall not exceed 20 sq. ft. in area per face or<br />
faces for each principal use.<br />
(c)<br />
Such signs shall not be allowed for home occupation uses.<br />
(4) Directional Signs. All directional signs shall comply with the standards in this<br />
section.<br />
(a) Such signs shall show name, direction, and mileage and may be located<br />
adjacent to a public right-<strong>of</strong>-way. Signs visible from any State Highway shall<br />
require a permit from the State Department <strong>of</strong> Highways prior to issuance <strong>of</strong> a <strong>Town</strong><br />
sign permit.<br />
(b) Directional signs will be permitted only when authorized by the Board <strong>of</strong><br />
Trustees, upon determination that, as a special exemption, the same are necessary or<br />
convenient to the traveling public to locate distinctive objects, businesses or land<br />
uses.<br />
(c) Permits for directional signs shall not be issued where such requirements are<br />
served by a sign installation provided by the State or <strong>Town</strong>.<br />
(d) Directional signs shall not exceed 6 sq. ft. in area per sign and must conform<br />
to design standards set by the Board <strong>of</strong> Trustees. No more than two such <strong>of</strong>f-site<br />
signs per principal use may be allowed.<br />
(e) No sign shall be allowed that prevents the driver <strong>of</strong> a vehicle from<br />
maintaining a clear and unobstructed view <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficial signs and approaching or<br />
merging traffic.<br />
(g)<br />
Structural Characteristics. The structural characteristics <strong>of</strong> signs shall comply with the<br />
