Operations in Fiscal Year 1961 21<br />

Employees selected collective-bargaining agents in 3,643 of these<br />

elections This figuie represented 55 percent of the elections held<br />

In fiscal 1960, employees selected collective-baigaining agents in 58<br />

percent of elections<br />

In these representation elections, bargammg agents were chosen to<br />

represent units totaling 237,040 employees, or 51 percent of those<br />

eligible to vote This compares with 59 percent in fiscal 1960, and<br />

60 percent in fiscal 1959<br />

Of the 469,294 who were eligible to vote, 89 percent cast valid<br />

ballots<br />

Of the 419,914 employees actually casting valid ballots m <strong>Board</strong><br />

representation elections during the year, 248,727, or 59 percent, voted<br />

in favor of representation<br />

Unions affiliated with the Ammican Federation of <strong>Labor</strong>-Congress<br />

of Industrial Oiganizations won 2,229 of the 4,449 elections in which<br />

they took part This was 50 percent of the elections in which they<br />

participated In 1960, AFL-CIO-affiliated unions won 53 percent<br />

of the elections in which they participated In 1959, the affiliated<br />

unions won 57 pet cent of the elections in wluch they participated<br />

Unaffiliated unions won 1,414 of 2,793 elections in which they<br />

participated This was 51 percent of the elections in which the unaffiliated<br />

unions took part This compared with 52 pet cent in 1960,<br />

and 54 percent in 1959<br />
