<strong>2007</strong>-<strong>08</strong> – <strong>2017</strong>-<strong>18</strong> <strong>California</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>Rail</strong> <strong>Plan</strong>trestle in Cardiff at MP 240.4 is under marine borer attack and needs <strong>to</strong> bereplaced. NCTD has undertaken preliminary design and environmental work forthese bridges using its existing funding sources but no construction funding hasbeen identified <strong>to</strong> date.Sorren<strong>to</strong> <strong>to</strong> Miramar Double Track (Phase 1 and Phase 2) – These projectswould add a second track between Sorren<strong>to</strong> Valley and the <strong>to</strong>p of Miramar Hill,a <strong>to</strong>tal of 3.1 miles. The resulting double track segment would connect withexisting double track segments both north of and south of this area, resulting in a<strong>to</strong>tal double track length of 9.1 miles. In addition, the project includes curvestraightening <strong>to</strong> improve speeds.This current stretch of single track is the slowest, steepest, and highest curveterri<strong>to</strong>ry of any segment on the LOSSAN corridor, with speeds currently restricted<strong>to</strong> 25 miles per hour. It has also been the site of two serious freight trainderailments which shut down the entire line and caused severe disruption <strong>to</strong> allcorridor services. Design is complete <strong>to</strong> 60% and funding is available for finaldesign, but no construction money is currently available.Del Mar Bluffs Stabilization-Phase 3-Additional Bluff Stabilization – Erodedtrack bed support will be replaced, the bluff face will be protected, and the bluff<strong>to</strong>e will be reinforced in high-risk s<strong>to</strong>rm erosion areas, as identified in thegeotechnical study.Poinsettia Station Platform Extension – This project would extend both stationplatforms <strong>to</strong> accommodate train consists of six or more cars.METROLINK COMMUTER RAIL SERVICE(LOS ANGELES, ORANGE, RIVERSIDE, SAN BERNARDINO, ANDVENTURA COUNTIES)PRINCIPAL <strong>2007</strong>-<strong>08</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>2017</strong>-<strong>18</strong> ROUTE OBJECTIVES• Improve cus<strong>to</strong>mer service and accessibility.• Improve integration with other transit services.• Purchase 107 new rail cars.• Design and construct Sealed Corridor safety improvements on SCRRAownedlines.• Complete system-wide rail line rehabilitation/renovation projects.• Construct Eastern Area maintenance facility.• Perform various projects <strong>to</strong> improve system performance.• Purchase and rebuild 15 used locomotives.• Complete Lincoln Avenue double-track.142
