Podujevo 1999 – Beyond Reasonable Doubtpletely wrong. What kind of an investigative judge would I be if I failed tocount the corpses. I am sure that I issued an order that bullet cases found atthe scene should be gathered and taken to the Secretariat of Interior, but Ido not know if it was done. I do not believe that after this I ordered policeto gather bullet cases from the scene. Maybe I did say ‘Keep the bullet cases’.I did tell the guys to gather bullet cases and the rest of the material evidence, which I always do. As far as I know, the Territorial Defence buriedthe bodies later on. I do not know if the bodies were transported anywhereelse beside the location they were buried at. I asked the Priština ForensicInstitute to carry out autopsies. I cannot remember the name of the ForensicSpecialist’s name. I do not know if the bodies ever reached the PrištinaForensic Institute. I will not reveal the name of the State Security Chief whotold me that Albanians told him that they would make a massacre if theyautopsied the bodies.”Defence counsellor Goran Rodić then raised objection against the witness’sstatement that he would not like to reveal the name of the State SecurityChief who gave him such information:“I personally withdrew the autopsy request. I cannot remember exactly, but I think I sent this statement to the Secretariat of Interior and orderedthat the bodies be buried because of the possible exhumation. I do notknow if this statement exists in the case file. I remember that I wrote somethingin a hurry, maybe I was writing to Podujevo, but I cannot rememberexactly now. When I interrogated defendant Saša Cvjetan for the first time,I had a criminal complaint with me, and it is possible that I had his statement, which he gave to the police officers, but I do not pay attention to itbecause this is separated from the proceedings. On this occasion, I askedthe defendant if he had a defence attorney and he said he did not have. Then I asked him if he accepted this attorney and he said yes. As I have alreadysaid the defendant behaved properly in all situations. I asked him ifhe wanted to hire his own defence attorney and he asked me how long hewould have to wait for this. He said he wanted to hire an attorney from Belgradeor some other city and I told him that it would take a lot of time becauseit happened during the bombing. Then I asked him if he had confidencein this attorney and in me and he said yes.237
