Podujevo 1999 – Beyond Reasonable Doubtkilled in an attempted assassination. Even though we were not allowed toget off the buses, I saw that certain Scorpions members got off the busesand went to break into the stores and take merchandise. I was appalled becauseI stick to the orders.Then Rajko Olujić spoke to me. He told me to go with him and find suitablehouses in which we could be stationed. Every platoon was supposed tobe stationed in a separate house. Four police officers came with us, maybesome of them were SAJ members, I really do not know, to show us the areaand help us find an appropriate house since they spent more time thereand they knew the situation in town. We went up some street a little furtherfrom the police station and the bus we arrived on. I do not know whichstreet it was, it was several hundred metres away from the police stationand the buses because these SAJ members told us that all houses close tothe police station and the place where our buses were parked were alreadytaken by other units that arrived to Podujevo before us.We arrived to one house we assessed to be suitable for our platoon to bestationed in it, we came to the fence, which was locked. It was a big fence- one-third on the top was made of metal, then one third made of wood,and one third again in metal. I was kicking that wooden part until it wasloose. I am not sure who entered the yard first, whether it was Rajko or I.Anyway, we entered the yard together and the police officers that escortedus came in as well. In the yard on my right side I noticed a big two-storeybuilding and on the left side one smaller house. When I entered the yard,I noticed, on the left side, a green grenade; I cannot say which type of grenadeit was.After we entered the yard, one old man with some money and gold cameto us from the house on the left side and he was telling us, “We will pay”. Itold him that we were not taking anything. Then he told us that there weremore people inside the house. We told them to come out. That old manwent to call other people to come out of the house. Four or five men andwomen came out carrying suitcases. After that we heard some noise in theother house in the same yard. I think that somebody called those people tocome out as well. I believe that one of the police officers who were therewith us called them.61
