Regarding this, the defendantsaid:I did not give that information to the inspectors. I do not know how theSecretariat of Interior members obtained that information because it is obviouslyinformation from the field. I received the record with that content;I signed it; and I was told that I must give that statement before the investigativejudge.Investigative judge Mijat Bajović interrogated me in the district court. BesidesMijat Bajović, other persons present during my interrogation werea court reporter and these two inspectors who wrote the statement andforced me to sign it.I especially underline that I did not have a defence counsellor, that my lawyerwas not present, and that I did not have an attorney at all. The investigativejudge practically wrote the same statement I gave earlier in the Secretariatof Interior.”The defendant was asked whether he heard the investigative judge’s warningthat he has right to a lawyer, and that Dragutin Stanković was appointedas his lawyer and the court also informed the defendant that he gave thestatement and signed it. Regarding this issue, the defendant said:“I claim that the investigative judge did not inform me of my right to havea lawyer and I would love to see that attorney appointed to be my defencecounsellor, and to see the investigative judge and all of the persons presentduring my interrogation, so that we can see who is telling the truth and tosee whether or not I had a lawyer.I do not accept any part of the statement that I gave before the investigativejudge on 24 May 1999 that is not in accordance to the statement I gavehere today. The only thing they did as they promised was that after somefive or six days, they informed my family where I was.68
