Podujevo 1999 – Beyond Reasonable DoubtThe state prosecutor asked the witness if some commander called Vuk reactedin some way when the Scorpions unit members gathered in front ofthe buses to return upon command.“It is possible that Vuk, who might be a lieutenant or captain, at most, saidsomething to the soldiers, but I did not notice that and I do not know anythingabout that. In the evening when we were in Prolom Banja, when theguys already settled in their rooms, a police patrol, i.e. two inspectors cameto me and asked me about what happened in Podujevo. I did not know toexplain that to them because I did not know and I still do not know.”Saša Cvjetan’s counsellor asked the witness whether the unit was on standbyafter it withdrew from Prolom Banja, and he replied:“Yes, the unit was on standby until we withdrew from Prolom Banja and aftera short period of time it was deployed in combat again.”Defendant Cvjetan’s counsellor Rodić asked the witness whether the Scorpionsmembers during the search, or generally soldiers during the war, leave weapons and go to execute some task or they carry their weaponswith them. The witness replied, “The soldier carries his weapons with him in anycase.”The same counsellor asked whether Cvjetan was authorised to carry a pistolhe found after he reported it to his unit. The witness said, “As far as I know, it was a war and it was allowed to carryweapons.”Defendant Demirović’s defence counsellor asked what kind of weapons theScorpions unit had.The witness said, “Light infantry weapons, 7.66 mm calibre automatic rifles, well known as Kalašnjikov.
