Humanitarian Law CenterI can say that we have not been told at the time of our engagement that wewere to take part in the operations as members of the Special AntiterroristUnit. We knew we were followed at all times by members of the SpecialAntiterrorist Unit on our way to Podujevo from Prolom Banja. We spent twoor three days in Prolom Banja, cleaning rifles. We were not issued rifles, butwe were cleaning rifles for those who were yet to come to Prolom Banja.I am saying that SAJ stands for special antiterrorist units, while we are calledScorpions. The commander of my unit, called Scorpions, was a man with a nicknameBoca, I don’t know his family name. I had my own platoon commander, itwas Rajko Olujić, whom I had known earlier, from Dalmatia and Novi Sad.Our unit has some 120 members, divided into five platoons. The commander of one of the platoons was a man whose nickname wasGuljo, I don’t know his name and family name, but I do know that he wasa brother of commander Boca. I am familiar with the fact that the menwith the nicknames Brka and Žućo were commanders of additional twoplatoons.I don’t remember exactly the day and date, but one morning around six orseven o’clock, together with the accompanying SAJ members, in buses, wewere transported from Prolom Banja to Podujevo where we were supposedto carry out our assignment. Then, before leaving, we were told that wewere going to clean the terrain. We reached Podujevo quickly and there wewere met by the members of SAJ and I saw a number of policemen there aswell. I believe they had blue battle fatigues and green vests, with the whitelettering Policija (Police) across the vests. Upon our arrival in Podujevo, intwo buses, commander Boca went to a meeting somewhere and we left thebus. I was standing, with Rajko Olujić and some other members of our unitand we were talking with the members of SAJ. The members of SAJ told usthat all those houses were empty, that everything has been cleaned. At that moment, a number of men left the buses upon their own initiativeand moved away from the buses and the houses surrounding us. I knowthat one of the officers of SAJ had told our platoon commanders to assignus into neighbouring houses, while I, with commander Rajko Olujić, in thecompany of a number of SAJ members and two policemen, was on my way282
