Podujevo 1999 – Beyond Reasonable Doubtperformed a triage, assessing that there were only three or four childrenstill showing signs of life and whom he gave help immediately. On the basisof the statement of this witness - a physician - it was determined that allthe injuries of those persons had been inflicted by firearm projectiles andthat the injuries had been recent and the injuries were bleeding while hewas giving assistance to the wounded. On the basis of the statement ofthis witness - a physician - it was also determined that all the injuries of thesurviving children had been serious as those were through-and-throughwounds and, in the words of the witness, these injuries would have provedfatal had medical assistance not been given. The statement of this witnessagrees with the statements of other witnesses, members of SAJ, and, withthem, presents a logical whole. The crime scene investigation was carried out two days later and, on the basisof the statement of witness Milan Anastasijević, it was determined thatin the courtyard of a ground floor house alone there were 14 bodies, mostlywomen and children, and an elderly man. At the time of the crime sceneinvestigation, two bodies were discovered in a teahouse, as well as threebodies in a nearby house. At the time of the crime scene investigation, witnessesAnastasijević and Janković collected cartridge cases from the crimescene, but not all of them as they, in their opinion, had been of the samecalibre. The investigative judge, after the crimescene investigation, ordered the corpses transported to the Clinic and HospitalCentre in Priština, for autopsy. However, on the basis of the letter ofthe Clinic and Hospital Centre in Priština it was determined that the autopsyhad not been carried out, but only the surface examination of the corpseswhich were, then, returned to Podujevo where they were taken over bythe officials of the civil defence.Describing the crime scene investigation carried out by them, witnessesAnastasijević and Janković stated that the sight of 14 corpses in a singlecourtyard was so gruesome that it made it difficult for them to carry outthe investigation in the usual manner. The same feeling was expressed bythe investigative judge, Mijat Bajović, who performed the investigation ofthe crime scene himself, giving this as the reason why the data containedin the minutes of the investigation was unclear.
