5. Beginning of application indicates acceptance of existing conditions.<br />

D. Application:<br />

1. Application shall be performed by certified applicator in accordance with manufacturer's published<br />

instructions.<br />

2. Schedule to begin 7 days after floor slab placement.<br />

3. Employ methods to ensure concrete surface is not damaged during application, including discoloration.<br />

4. Where new concrete panels are lighter than existing adjacent panels, mix concrete silicate colorant and<br />

densifier at a dilution of 12 ounces colorant per gallon of densifier. Vary dilution rate as required to match<br />

existing adjacent concrete slab panels. Concrete silicate colorant manufacturer’s technical representative<br />

must be on site during use of product.<br />

5. Apply densifier finish at a rate of 500 sq. ft. per gallon.<br />

6. Apply with low pressure sprayer with enough coverage to keep concrete surface wet for minimum 20<br />

minute period.<br />

3.4 PROTECTIVE SURFACE TREATMENT APPLICATION<br />

A. Area to be Treated: Subsequent to densifier application and within two weeks prior to Re-Grand Opening, apply<br />

protective surface treatment over surfaces to which densifier has been applied.<br />

B. Examination and Preparation: Prior to application, applicator shall examine the areas and conditions to be<br />

treated to assure satisfactory conditions.<br />

C. Application:<br />

1. Apply in accordance with manufacturer’s published instructions<br />

2. Apply first coat at the rate of 2,000 – 2,500 sq. ft. per gallon per manufacturer’s recommendation (DO NOT<br />

OVERAPPLY).<br />

3. Use applicator pad pre-wetted with stain guard, to pull out material to create a thin film prior to drying.<br />

4. Remove product completely from areas of overapplication as evidenced by surface streaking and replace<br />

with unused stain guard.<br />

5. Apply second coat of stain guard at all high traffic areas identified on the drawings at the rate of 2,500 sq.<br />

ft. per gallon.<br />

D. Do not allow water or other liquids to come in contact with finished floor for 72 hours after protective treatment<br />

application.<br />

3.5 BURNISHING PROCEDURE<br />

A. Allow to dry.<br />

B. High Speed Burnish:<br />

1. After each application of stain guard is dry, burnish surface.<br />

2. Burnish at a slow movement pace using high speed machine with 800 grit diamond impregnated or hog’s<br />

hair burnishing pads.<br />

3. Burnish with several passes. Make each progressive pass at 90-degrees from previous pass.<br />

4. Burnishing, pad type, and pace of forward movement shall combine to develop a minimum floor surface<br />

temperature of 91-degrees Fahrenheit directly below the burnishing pad as continuously measured by the<br />

operator during installation.<br />

C. Continue burnishing operations until the specified gloss is attained. Achieve specified gloss not later than two<br />

weeks prior to Re-Grand Opening and maintain specified gloss levels until Re-Grand Opening.<br />

D. Provide final burnishing prior to Re-Grand Opening to eliminate any scratches resulting from construction<br />

operations.<br />
