B. Do not proceed until unsatisfactory conditions are corrected.<br />

3.3 DENSIFIER APPLICATION<br />

A. If mock up reveals existing slab won’t accept penetrating densifier, as evidenced by whitening or streaking of slab<br />

surface, omit densifier application and proceed with protective surface treatment application specified below.<br />

Omission of densifier application must be approved in writing by <strong>Walmart</strong> Concrete Consultant.<br />

B. Use proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when applying densifier.<br />

C. Applicator shall examine the areas and conditions under which work of this section and shall not proceed until unsatisfactory<br />

conditions are resolved.<br />

1. Correct existing slab conditions that are found to be out of compliance with the requirements of this Section.<br />

2. Inspect joint and joint filler material. <strong>No</strong>tify maintenance if replacement is required.<br />

3. Required slab repairs shall be reviewed and accepted by the Owner’s Flooring Consultant (SSI) prior to<br />

proceeding.<br />

D. Application:<br />

1. Application shall be performed by certified applicator in accordance with manufacturer’s published instructions.<br />

2. Employ methods to ensure concrete surface is not damaged during application, including discoloration.<br />

3. Apply surface densifier at the rate of 500 SF per gallon.<br />

4. Apply with low pressure sprayer with enough coverage to keep concrete surface wet for minimum 20<br />

minute period.<br />

5. After densifier is dry, burnish surface, removing all remaining densifier residue.<br />

6. Burnish at a slow movement pace using high speed machine with burnishing pads.<br />

3.4 PROTECTIVE SURFACE TREATMENT (STAIN GUARD) APPLICATION<br />

A. Area to be treated: Subsequent to densifier application or in lieu of same as specified above, apply protective<br />

treatment over surfaces to which densifier has been applied and has dried.<br />

B. Use proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when applying lithium stain guard and/or burnishing.<br />

C. Apply Stain Guard:<br />

1. Apply in accordance with manufacturer’s published instructions.<br />

2. Apply first coat at the rate of 2,000-2,500 sq. ft. per gallon, per manufacturer’s recommendation (DO NOT<br />

OVER APPLY).<br />

3. Use applicator pad, pre-wetted with stain guard, to pull material out to create a thin film prior to drying.<br />

4. Remove product completely from areas of over application, as evidenced by surface streaking, and replace<br />

with unused stain guard.<br />

5. Apply second coat of stain guard at all high traffic areas identified on the drawings at the rate of 2,500 sq.<br />

ft. per gallon.<br />

D. High speed burnish:<br />

1. After each application of stain guard is dry, burnish surface.<br />

2. Burnish at a slow movement pace using high speed machine with 800 grit diamond impregnated or hog’s<br />

hair burnishing pads.<br />

3. Burnish with several passes. Make each progressive pass at 90 degrees from previous pass.<br />

4. Burnishing, pad type, and pace of forward movement shall combine to develop a minimum floor surface<br />

temperature of 91-degrees F directly below the burnishing pad as continuously measured by the operator<br />

during installation.<br />
