NURSING<br />

Program of Studies Leading to the A.A.S. Degree<br />

The Nursing curriculum is designed to prepare competent associate degree nurses who<br />

are eligible to meet licensing requirements for registered nurses and are able to practice nursing<br />

in acute care, long term care, homes, clinics, physician’s offices, or other agencies established<br />

to meet the health needs of individuals.<br />

Nursing courses must be taken in the sequence listed as content and skills build from<br />

simple to complex. A minimum grade of “C” must be earned in all courses required in the<br />

nursing curriculum in order to receive an A.A.S. Degree in Nursing.<br />

Nursing students must comply with the rules and policies as presented in the nursing<br />

student handbook in addition to those listed in the catalog. Students who meet criteria for<br />

readmission into the program must comply with the Nursing Student Handbook which is in<br />

place for the class to which they have been readmitted.<br />

The <strong>Luzerne</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Community</strong> College Nursing Program is also offered at off campus<br />

sites in Dimock and Kulpmont, Pennsylvania. Students taking Nursing Courses (NUR) at off<br />

campus sites are charged out-of-county tuition rates.<br />

Classes are admitted at the Susquehanna Area Vocational Technical School, Dimock, in<br />

even years (<strong>2004</strong>,2006,etc.). Requests for applications can be made at the LCCC Satellite office<br />

at Susquehanna Area Vocational-Technical School. Call 570-278-1106 (ext.781) or 1-800-377-<br />

LCCC (ext. 337).<br />

Classes are admitted at the Kulpmont Center, 1100 Spruce Street, Suite 200, Kulpmont, PA<br />

17834, in the odd years (<strong>2005</strong>,2007,etc.). Requests for applications can be made at the LCCC<br />

office at 570-373-5676 or 1-800-377-LCCC (ext.337).<br />

An evening nursing program is offered at the Main Campus in the odd years (<strong>2005</strong>,2007).<br />

Class and clinical experiences are held after 3 p.m. Interested applicants must designate a<br />

preference for evening classes since a limited number of openings are available.<br />

A day nursing program is offered yearly at the Main Campus.<br />

The nursing program is approved by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing and is<br />

accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, 61 Broadway, New<br />

York City, NY 10006. Telephone (212) 363-5555.<br />

A person convicted of any felonious act may be prohibited from licensure by the State<br />

Board of Nursing. For additional information contact the Nursing Department.<br />
