PLUMBING AND HEATING TECHNOLOGY<br />

Recommended Program of Studies Leading to the Certificate of Specialization<br />

Basic theories of plumbing and heating, household and industrial maintenance, sewage<br />

systems and the use of hand and power tools, with practical training in various types of<br />

plumbing and heating repairs, installation work, heat loss calculations, design heating, basic<br />

solar and state-of-the-art efficiency equipment. Positions available to those who complete the<br />

program include work as an apprentice plumber, in industrial maintenance, plumbing parts<br />

counterperson, or for the more experienced individual, work as a licensed plumber in new<br />

construction, in public maintenance, in public utility services, as a job foreperson, as an estimator<br />

for a plumbing contractor, or as a plumbing supply sales representative.<br />

PUBLIC SAFETY COMMUNICATIONS<br />

Recommended Program of Studies Leading to the Certificate of Specialization<br />

The certificate of specialization in Public Safety Communications will enable the student<br />

to develop the specialized skills necessary to take 911 calls, direct EMS-EMA-Fire-Police resources,<br />

direct the general public in pre-arrival instructions, and handle all emergency calls<br />

as they may arise within a dispatch center. The student will also be evaluated and will gain<br />

experience in a realistic simulator console that will add to the development of their skills.<br />

Graduates of this program may be employed as call takers or dispatchers with local, state,<br />

private or federal dispatch centers. The successful student will also receive Pennsylvania<br />

State certification as mandated by the Telecommunications ACT.<br />
