ENG 242-Modern Drama 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />

This course will include discussion of contemporary theatre as well as selected<br />

classical plays. Attendance at amateur and professional theatre productions<br />

will supplement the readings. Participation in various dramatic exercises<br />

will be encouraged.<br />

ENG 251-Creative Writing 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />

Open to students who have demonstrated their capacity and interest in writing.<br />

Students will study the different forms of creative writing, particularly poetry and<br />

short fiction for style and theme, in order to produce their own individual works.<br />

Through the class, students will create a portfolio of original works of poetry and<br />

fiction pieces. The process of publishing personal writing is discussed, and students<br />

who wish may undertake original work for possible publication in a studentsponsored<br />

project.<br />

Prerequisites: ENG 102 or ENG 104.<br />

ENG 261-Technical Communications 2 Lect., 2 Lab., 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />

Technical Communications is designed to provide the student with experience<br />

in preparing and drafting documents particular to most business settings. The course<br />

examines the differences in style from prose or academic settings. Students prepare<br />

actual documents in collaborative and individual settings using word processing<br />

and presentation software. The assignments provide the opportunity for students<br />

to showcase research results through written and oral formats.<br />

FINE ARTS<br />

ART 110-Art Appreciation 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />

An introduction to the elements of architecture, painting and sculpture; the principles<br />

of the fine and applied arts are considered for their immediate relevance to<br />

contemporary life; through various media and through classroom experiences, the<br />

student develops his/her awareness of the sensitivity to all forms of art.<br />

ART 150-The Creative Spirit in Modern and Contemporary Art 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />

This course will examine the major developments in art from Impressionism to<br />

the present. Class sessions will include lectures, visual presentations and class discussions.<br />

ART 200-The Movies 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />

Techniques of film making, surveys of history, movements, and genres of movies;<br />

analysis of selected performers and directors.<br />

MUS 150-Music Appreciation 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />

An introduction to Western music including the elements of music, various<br />

musical styles, medias and forms, stylistic periods, and significant composers.<br />

FIRE SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY<br />

FST 101-Introduction to Fire Protection and Prevention 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />

An introduction to fire science with emphasis upon municipal fire services,<br />

fire defenses through prevention and the basic concepts of combustion and extinguishment<br />

FST 111-Fire Service Management 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />

An introduction to the management of fire service resources, equipment and<br />

personnel; financing of fire service operations; fire related laws of Pennsylvania;<br />

personnel leadership and development; public relations for the fire service.<br />
