HPE 242-Advanced Basketball 1 Sem.-Hr.<br />
This course is designed to enable the student to improve his ability to play basketball.<br />
Basic fundamentals along with advanced techniques will be applied to fit<br />
the needs of each student.<br />
HPE 244-Coaching of Sport 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />
The purpose of this course is to allow the student to develop his or her own<br />
philosophy of coaching and to develop the skills necessary to be an efficient ethical<br />
teacher of young and old athletes. Topics of discussion will include coaching<br />
qualities, roles of the coach, the needs of various age groups, sports psychology,<br />
ethical considerations and scenarios, teaching skills, community involvement etc.<br />
The course will provide comprehensive insight to the job of coaching. (Spring<br />
semester only.)<br />
HPE 246-Officiating of Sport 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />
This course is designed to provide special direction for physical education and<br />
recreation sports major students and prospective coaches. The course is also a guide<br />
for supervisors of school sports, community recreation programs, and individuals<br />
preparing to enter the sports officiating field. This course provides the opportunity<br />
to become PIAA certified in sports officiating upon successful completion of the<br />
state exam.<br />
HPE 247-Fitness and Wellness 1 Sem.-Hr.<br />
This is a one hour lecture course designed to familiarize the student with the<br />
various aspects that make up their total fitness. Ex.: 1.) Cardiovascular, muscular<br />
strength and endurance, flexibility. 2.) Stress reduction. 3.) Weight control through<br />
proper nutrition and exercise. 4.) Health Affects of Alcohol and Tobacco.<br />
HPE 248-Human Sexuality 2 Sem.-Hrs.<br />
This course has been designed to present all aspects of sexuality, emphasizing<br />
that we are all sexual beings and that sexuality should be viewed in its totality -<br />
biological, spiritual, psychological and social-cultural dimensions.<br />
HPE 249-Conditioning and Weight Training for Women 2 Lab., 1 Sem.-Hr.<br />
HPE 249 emphasis is on the design and implementation of individualized weight<br />
training programs to meet the specific muscular and cardiovascular fitness needs<br />
and interests of women.<br />
HPE 252-Martial Arts II 2 Lab., 1 Sem. Hr.<br />
HPE 252 is designed as a continuation of Beginner Basic Martial Arts. The students<br />
will be taught techniques which will build upon the basic techniques taught<br />
in Martial Arts I. In addition to traditional martial arts and practical self defense,<br />
students will be introduced to sport karate.<br />
Prerequisite: HPE 228 Martial Arts I.<br />
HPE 262-Internship - Practical Applications in the Field of<br />
Health, Physical Education and Movement Sciences 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />
The student is given the opportunity to perform an internship and serve in a<br />
leadership role in a work-site that pertains to the expanded field of Health and<br />
Physical Education. Examples are work-site wellness programs, hospital-based<br />
wellness centers, cardiac rehabilitation centers, YMCA’s, city recreation departments<br />
and schools of all levels. The internship is intended to give the student practical<br />
work experience and direction toward their career goal. The professor will meet<br />
periodically with the student and contact the immediate supervisor to discuss the<br />
progress made by the student. Students must meet a minimum of 150 hours.<br />
Prerequisites: HPE 122, 128, 151, 152, 154, 155.<br />
