DHY 213-<strong>Community</strong> Dental Health 2 Sem.-Hrs.<br />
This course provides a study of the background and techniques in the planning,<br />
implementation and evaluation of community dental health programs. <strong>Community</strong><br />
dental health projects and other field experiences will orient the student to the<br />
oral health needs of various population groups and create an awareness of current<br />
issues in dental public health.<br />
Prerequisites: PSY 103, DHY 201, 202, 203, 204, 205.<br />
Corequisites: SPE 125 or 210, SOC 215, DHY 211, 212.<br />
DHY 220-Dental Hygiene Practicum 2 Sem.-Hrs.<br />
This course is designed for second year students who have demonstrated higher<br />
than average accomplishment in DHY 211 and have accumulated a substantial<br />
portion of the requirements for DHY 212.<br />
This practicum can also be taken by graduate students who wish to further develop<br />
or refresh their clinical skills and experience.<br />
This course provides further development of the practical application of dental<br />
hygiene practices which the dental hygientist may perform in Pennsylvania.<br />
These practices include patient assessment, dental radiography, debridement of<br />
teeth, polishing, fluoride application and patient/office management procedures<br />
The student will complete approximately 120 hours of clinical experience at an<br />
off campus clinical or private dental office site under the direct supervision of a<br />
licensed dentist.<br />
Prereguisites: PSY 103, DHY 201, 202, 203, 204, 205. Senior enrollment in dental<br />
hygiene or graduate status and department approval.<br />
Corequisites: SPE 125 or 210, SOC 215, DHY 211, 212, 213.<br />
ECONOMICS<br />
ECO 151-Principles of Economics I (Macro) 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />
Introduction to fundamental economic concepts designed to acquaint the student<br />
with the functioning of the national economy; major stress is on the background,<br />
theory, and practice of applying governmental fiscal and monetary policy<br />
to economic problems; also emphasizes the gross national product, business cycles,<br />
money and banking and the stock market.<br />
ECO 152-Principles of Economics II (Micro) 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />
Introduction to fundamental economic concepts designed to acquaint the student<br />
with the functioning of the business firm in the economy, with distribution theory,<br />
and with the elements of international trade and finance; supply and demand analysis<br />
is stressed to explain the operation of the price system in its classic function of<br />
determining what shall be produced for whom and how; current economic problems,<br />
economic growth and development, and comparative economics systems.<br />
Prerequisite: ECO 151 or permission of the instructor.<br />
ECO 251-Money and Banking 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />
Study of the nature and functions of money; including a detailed analysis of<br />
banking and credit; topics covered include the development of banks in the United<br />
States, deposit and lending operations of commercial banks , the functions of central<br />
banks, the role of savings and loan associations and other financial intermediaries,<br />
monetary policies for economic stabilization, international monetary and financial<br />
problems.<br />
Prerequisite: ECO 152 or permission of instructor.<br />
