Procedures:<br />

• The following paperwork is submitted to the Coordinator of Student Development: LCCC<br />

Application with $40 fee; official high school transcript; SAT scores (if applicable);<br />

completed Young Scholar Application. Do NOT send payment for tuition,<br />

as you will be billed upon acceptance and registration.<br />

• The Young Scholars Selection Committee, comprised of representatives from<br />

the departments of Admissions, Counseling and Academic Advising, is responsible<br />

for making a final determination on acceptance and course selection.<br />

• The deadline for Fall <strong>2004</strong> applications is Friday, August 6, <strong>2004</strong>. The deadline<br />

for Spring <strong>2005</strong> applications is Friday, December 10, <strong>2004</strong>. An application,<br />

high school transcript, SAT/Placement Test scores and completed Young Scholar<br />

Registration form must be submitted by those dates indicating the course(s) to<br />

be taken. After these dates, Young Scholar registration will be closed.<br />

High school students, counselors, or parents who are interested in obtaining<br />

more information may contact the Coordinator of Student Development at (570)<br />

740-0455 or 1-800-377-5222 extension 455.<br />

EARLY ADMISSION<br />

Students who have successfully completed their high school requirements at<br />

the end of their junior year may apply for Early Admission. The student must submit<br />

to the Admissions Office an application for admission with an official high<br />

school transcript and a non-refundable $40.00 application fee.<br />

A letter of permission indicating approval from the Secondary School must be<br />

submitted to the College.<br />

Placement testing is required for all Early Admission participants. The placement<br />

test will be scheduled after submitting the application to the Admissions Office.<br />

(Students with a minimum of 500 Verbal and 500 Math in the SAT will not be<br />

required to take the placement test.)<br />

The high school transcript and test results must be available to be considered for<br />

Early Admission. An Admission comittee will assess the qualifications of applicants<br />

and notify students of the Admissions decision.<br />

IN SCHOOL YOUTH<br />

Eligible participants are high school juniors and seniors who:<br />

• Have above average high school grades.<br />

• Have taken the assessment test and do not need developmental course work in<br />

the course(s) that they wish to take.<br />

• Have high school guidance counselor recommendation in written form.<br />

• Have parental or guardian permission in written form.<br />

Limits on participation:<br />

• A minimum GPA of 2.0 and a grade of “C” or better in each course attempted to<br />

continue participation.<br />

• Participants are eligible to take only evening or weekend courses.<br />

Procedures:<br />

• Follow the Procedures for Admission for full-time and part-time students.<br />

RE-ADMISSION<br />

A student who has previously studied at <strong>Luzerne</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Community</strong> College<br />

and desires to return for part-time or full-time study after an absence of one semester<br />

or more must apply for re-admission.<br />
