NEW CHOICES/NEW OPTIONS<br />

CAREER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM<br />

The New Choices/New Options Career Development Program assists single<br />

parents, homemakers, and persons interested in exploring job opportunities which<br />

have traditionally been held by the opposite gender.<br />

To be eligible, an individual must be a single parent, homemaker, or a student<br />

who is enrolled in a non-traditional curriculum (percentage of gender bias is greater<br />

than 75%). Persons must also meet certain financial eligibility guidelines.<br />

Services include career, academic, and personal counseling as well as tuition<br />

assistance. Group sessions in goal-setting, time management, stress management,<br />

work and career assessment, gender bias, resume writing, interviewing skills, and<br />

job search strategies are included in the guidance cycles offered through the program.<br />

Funding is made possible through the Pennsylvania Department of Education.<br />

INSURANCE PROTECTION<br />

<strong>Luzerne</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Community</strong> College, in addition to being a non-profit institution,<br />

is an independent agent of the <strong>County</strong> performing its function of education.<br />

Therefore, it assumes no responsibility for the negligence of its officers, agents or<br />

employees when in the exercise of public or governmental powers or in the performance<br />

of any duties incident to the general education work of the College.<br />

Primary Excess insurance program covers all full-time and part-time students<br />

of the College while on the premises of the College and while traveling to, while<br />

there, and returning from College-sponsored and supervised activities. Any student<br />

who desires insurance protection against loss of property by fire or theft while<br />

in attendance at the College should arrange personally for whatever insurance seems<br />

advisable.<br />

EMERGENCY PROCEDURES<br />

In case of an accident or illness requiring emergency action, the following<br />

procedure will be activated:<br />

I. DAYTIME HOURS: 8:00. A.M.-4:00 P.M.<br />

1. Contact the College switchboard by dialing 0 or using the RED<br />

emergency phones located in most buildings.<br />

Provide the College Operator with the following information:<br />

— Location of the accident or illness<br />

— Student involved (if available)<br />

— Type of emergency<br />

2. The College operator will notify Campus Security and the Vice President<br />

of Student Development.<br />

3. The College will immediately respond to provide assistance and determine<br />

the need for community emergency assistance.<br />
