Professional behavior is a requirement for this field, as well as for this course. No
nudity, unethical behavior, immaturity, or unprofessional behavior will be allowed
or tolerated in the classroom.
NURSE AIDE TRAINING PROGRAM
Nursing Assistants are important members of the nursing team. The passage of
the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (OBRA) of 1987 was the first legislation to
address standards for the basic education and level of competency required for the
nursing assistant. These regulations help define the scope of nursing assistant practice.
The Nurse Aide Training Program is designed to train the student in the basic
knowledge and skills they will need to care for the elderly. This program consists
of 80 hours of training including 21 hours of classroom instruction, 21 hours of
laboratory practice, and 38 hours of clinical experience. The program provides a
maximum of one instructor for every ten students for clinical experience. Upon
completion of this program, the Nurse Aide Trainee will be eligible to sit for the
written skills competency testing given by the American Red Cross.
Nursing homes may sponsor qualified candidates in this Nurse Aide Training
Program. Classes are held on our main campus in Nanticoke and our off campus
centers in Hazleton and Shamokin, Northumberland county.
PROFESSIONAL TRUCK DRIVER PROGRAM
In today’s world, if you have it, a truck brought it. To meet the needs of the fastpaced
world, the transportation industry is always looking for well-trained, professional
drivers to keep their trucks on the move!
This need for drivers will continue to grow through the next century. As consumer
needs increase, so will the need for trucks. This driver shortage is creating
unlimited career opportunities for any man or woman who is willing to meet the
challenge.
The Luzerne County Community College’s Professional Truck Driver Program
is dedicated to providing quality training for anyone wanting to be employed as a
professional entry level tractor-trailer driver. Our program emphasizes safety and
driver courtesy as well as the skills needed to operate the equipment successfully.
You must:
• be at least 21 years of age
• possess a high school diploma
• possess a valid driver’s license
• have no more than 3 current points on your Motor Vehicle Report
• have no current drug or alcohol charges on you Motor Vehicle Report
• meet eligibility requirements for a Commercial Driver’s license
• pass a DOT physical and drug screening
• show your ability to benefit from training
• complete an application and interview with the Program Director
