CRC 212-Multiple Speaker Reporting 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />

Multiple-speaker dictation in simulated judicial and administrative hearing settings.<br />

Emphasis is placed on proficiency in writing and distinguishing between<br />

more than one speaker while performing all duties and responsibilities of a judicial<br />

court reporter. This course is designed to give the student a realistic, hands-on view<br />

of what can be expected in actual judicial reporting situations.<br />

Prerequisite: CRC 113.<br />

Corequesite: CRC 220.<br />

CRC 220-Judicial Reporting Procedures 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />

This course will instruct the student in the most common procedural aspects of<br />

the judicial reporter’s role in trials, depositions, and administrative hearings. Review<br />

of the NCRA Code of Professional Ethics is presented.<br />

Prerequisite: CRC 113.<br />

CRC 230-Court Reporting Technology II 2 Sem.-Hrs.<br />

Advanced computer-aided transcription and realtime, introduction to litigation<br />

support and cutting-edge applications of realtime technology, and a discussion of<br />

alternative technologies.<br />

Prerequisites: CRC 111, CRC 130.<br />

CRC 290-Captioning/CART Clinic 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />

An introduction to the job duties, technologies, and machine shorthand writing<br />

theories unique to broadcast captioning and CART (Communication Access<br />

Realtime Translation) reporting and the career opportunities available to reporters<br />

in these fields.<br />

Prerequisites: CRC 114, CRC 220.<br />

CRC 299-Court Reporting/Captioning Internship 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />

The internship program is intended to give the student practical work experience<br />

in the judicial reporting environment and, if available, the broadcast<br />

captioning/CART environment. The internship will meet all NCRA Institutional<br />

Standards for Internship as described in the NCRA Council on Approved Student<br />

Education General Requirements and Minimum Standards.<br />

Prerequisites: CRC 114, CRC 212, CRC 220.<br />

Corequisite: CRC 115.<br />

CRIMINAL JUSTICE<br />

CJU 130-Introduction to Criminal Justice 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />

This course is designed to explore the basic components of our criminal justice<br />

system, namely police, courts and corrections. The student will be introduced to<br />

each component from historical development to current operations, including the<br />

goals and objectives of each. Other areas to be covered include: criminal law, the<br />

trial process, an overview of the juvenile justice system and relevant contemporary<br />

issues.<br />

CJU 132-Criminal Investigation 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />

Criminal investigation is both a science and an art. This course will explore various<br />

techniques, principles, theories and problems of investigation, both at the crime<br />

scene and elsewhere. Topics include: crime scene search procedures, handling physical<br />

evidence, interviewing and interrogation and rules of evidence. Specific information<br />

relative to individual crimes will also be covered.<br />
