DENTAL ASSISTING<br />

DAS 101-Chairside Dental Assisting I 2 Lect., 2 Lab., 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />

This course provides an introduction to the knowledge, skills and responsibilities<br />

of the dental assistant. Topics include dental terminology, microbiology of disease<br />

transmission, infection control, occupational hazards, dental instruments and<br />

equipment, instrument transfer, oral evacuation and patient assessment. The student<br />

will practice skills in a supervised clinical laboratory setting.<br />

Prerequisites: ENG 101, BIO 125.<br />

Corequisites: DAS 102, 103, 104.<br />

DAS 102-Dental Anatomy 2 Lect., 2 Lab., 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />

This course provides a study of the normal anatomy of the oral cavity, teeth,<br />

head and neck. Laboratory activities are designed to reinforce course content.<br />

Prerequisites: ENG 101, BIO 125.<br />

Corequisites: DAS 101, 103, 104.<br />

DAS 103-Dental Materials 2 Lect., 2 Lab., 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />

This course provides a study of the properties and manipulation of preventive<br />

and restorative dental materials. Laboratory activities are designed to reinforce<br />

DAS 104-Dental Specialties 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />

This course provides an overview of specialty practices within dentistry including<br />

endodontics, oral surgery, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, periodontics, prosthodontics<br />

and dental public health.<br />

DAS 111-Chairside Dental Assisting II 2 Lect., 2 Lab., 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />

This course provides further development of the knowledge, skills and responsibilities<br />

of the dental assistant. Topics include oral pathology, pharmacology and<br />

pain control, nutrition, medical emergencies, rubber dam application and special<br />

patients. The student will practice skills in a supervised clinical laboratory setting.<br />

Prerequisites: ENG 101, BIO 125, DAS 101, 102, 103, 104.<br />

Corequisites: DAS 112, 113, 114.<br />

DAS 112-Dental Radiology 2 Lect., 3 Lab., 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />

This course provides an overview of dental radiology principles and techniques.<br />

Topics include x-ray production, radiation safety, exposure techniques, film processing<br />

and mounting, radiographic findings and patient management. The student<br />

will practice skills in a supervised clinical laboratory setting.<br />

DAS 113-Dental Practice Management 2 Sem.-Hrs.<br />

This course provides an overview of procedures used to manage dental offices<br />

and clinics. Topics include patient management, appointment control, bookkeeping<br />

systems, dental insurance, record keeping, written and oral communication,<br />

supplies and inventory and business records.<br />
