G.P.A. Required: 2.5 or higher
Established in 1998 by Rose Tucker, former LCCC Trustee and Luzerne County
Commissioner. Applicant must be a single parent who has primary custodial and
financial responsibility and is the head of household.
VETERANS’ BENEFITS
Luzerne County Community College is approved for the education and training
of veterans of the Armed Services.
FIRST-TIME VETERANS. Veterans enrolling at Luzerne County Community
College for the first time should:
1. Contact the Office of Veterans Affairs, Building 5, Room 508, for VA Forms
22-1990, Application for Education Benefits. This is used by the VA to establish
eligibility and authorize payment of educational benefits while the
veteran is attending the college.
2. Chapter 30 and Chapter 32 veterans must submit the VA Form 22-1990 along
with a certified copy of their DD-214 (form 4) to the Veterans Affairs Office at
least six to eight weeks prior to college registration.
3. Chapter 1606 (Selected Reserves) veterans must submit the VA Form 22-1990,
along with the NOBE (DD-2384 Notice of Basic Eligibility), which is obtained
from his/her National Guard or Reserve Unit.
4. Veterans transferring from another institution should request that each institution
from which they have received credits send a copy of the veteran’s
official transcript to this college. They will also need to fill out a VA Form
22-1995, Change of Program or Place of Training. Also, they need to provide
the Veteran’s representative with verification of what credits will transfer
to their program of study from a counselor from LCCC.
5. First time dependents should contact the VA Regional Office at 1-888-442-
4551 or e-mail buffrop@vba.va.gov for forms and assistance in determining
eligibility for benefits.
6. In order to be eligible for the full monthly allowance from the government,
a veteran must be enrolled for twelve or more semester-hours. Those enrolled
for fewer than twelve (12) semester-hours will be eligible for partial
compensation.
7. A VA Form 22-1999 (Enrollment Certification) must be filled out for each semester
the veteran plans to attend. The Veteran must inform the VA Office (Building
5, Room 508) of the number of credits which he/she is attempting each
semester. This should be done after the student has registered. Once the veteran
is registered, they need to provide the Veteran’s representative with a copy
of their new schedule and proof of payment at the beginning of every semester.
8. A listing of current educational veterans benefits is available in the Veterans
Affairs Office.
If a veteran applies directly to the VA or online for any of the above benefits, please
provide the Veteran’s representative with a copy of the application.
CHANGING OF ENTITLEMENT
It is the responsibility of the veteran to notify the Veterans Affairs Office of
all changes in number of semester-hours carried, of curriculum changes, or of
termination of student status.
Veterans who are enrolled as full-time students and who meet certain financial
need criteria are eligible for Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency
(PHEAA) scholarships and loans and the Federal Work-Study Program.
