This course is an introduction to laws pertaining to secured transactions, letters<br />
of credit, and the bank collection process. After successfully completing this course,<br />
you will be able to: explain the concept of negotiability; analyze the concept of<br />
holder-in-due-course status; describe the nature of primary and secondary contractual<br />
liability on an instrument; discuss the legal issues related to bank collections<br />
and check losses; define and explain the nature of a letter of credit; identify<br />
the issues related to secured transactions.<br />
BNK 205-Deposit Operations 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />
Deposit Operations provides an overview of the U.S. payments system, banking<br />
law and regulation, and current industry practices. It examines bank deposittaking<br />
activities, considers how banks manage deposited funds, and explores the<br />
interbank EFT systems. Emphasis is placed on ability to: define the regulatory and<br />
procedural framework within which banks operate; explain the U.S. payments system;<br />
interpret the changing definitions and roles of the nation’s depositories and<br />
the changing legal and regulatory environment in which they operate; describe the<br />
check collection process, the rules and practices that govern bank activities in effecting<br />
paper payment, and the risks banks incur in processing checks; describe the<br />
electronic components of the nation’s payment system, including the mechanisms<br />
involved, operational costs, risks, and regulatory guidelines; illustrate how banks<br />
create deposits and the factors that affect the process; list the range of cash management<br />
services that banks offer.<br />

BIO 101-Introduction to Biological Science I 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />
Structure, metabolism, development, reproduction and evolution of plants and<br />
animals; for students in non-technical fields.<br />
BIO 102-Human Genetics and Ecology 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />
This course emphasizes the role genetics and ecology has in everyday life.<br />
Some important topics to be covered include: parts and function of the cell;<br />
human reproduction; role of DNA and RNA in protein synthesis; Mendelian<br />
genetics; chromosomal abnormalities; birth defects; and biogeochemical cycles.<br />
Prerequisite: College-level Biology Course.<br />
BIO 120-Anatomy/Artists 2 Lect., 2 Lab., 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />
The student will study the anatomical construction of the human form. Both the<br />
inner and surface anatomy will be studied as a unit. Emphasis will be placed on the<br />
skeletal, muscular and integumentary systems. Laboratory work will include a<br />
detailed examination of disarticulated bones, complete skeletons and models of<br />
the muscular arrangements in the limbs.<br />
BIO 121-General Biology 3 Lect., 2 Lab., 4 Sem.-Hrs.<br />
An introduction to the chemistry of living things is studied. Emphasis is given<br />
to the hierarchy of biological organization, genetics and the systematic arrangement<br />
of living things with emphasis on the plant kingdom. Laboratory work includes<br />
use of the compound light microscope, study of cells and tissues, plant<br />
anatomy and reproductive patterns.<br />
