CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAM/<br />
CAREER TRAINING PROGRAMS<br />
Continuing Education programs are designed to provide maximum opportunity<br />
for individuals to take advantage of non-traditional alternatives for participation<br />
in higher education programming. For those interested in increasing specific<br />
content area knowledge or in developing new skills, flexible alternative training is<br />
offered in contrast to traditional, daytime programming. Training packages can be<br />
designed to meet the needs of groups and organizations.<br />
I. CREDIT-FREE PROGRAMMING<br />
Continuing Education provides a wide range of credit-free programs covering<br />
the areas of personal development/enrichment, skill-enhancement training/upgrading,<br />
and professional seminars, workshops, and symposiums. Offerings cover<br />
a variety of training areas including the arts, avocational pursuits, business-applications,<br />
personal computer applications and training, physical development activities,<br />
and the like.<br />
Each semester and/or session, over a hundred seminars and workshops are<br />
offered in the personal development/enrichment, category, in the professional continuing<br />
education category, and in the skill enhancement short-term vocational training<br />
category. The seminars are usually scheduled during the evening and weekend<br />
hours. Activities can be (and are) designed to address specific needs of clients. It<br />
should be noted that any seminar or workshop can also be scheduled during daytime<br />
hours, on and off campus, and special arrangements can be made through<br />
Continuing Education to custom design training to meet the needs of any individual<br />
and/or organization.<br />
II. CONFERENCES, SEMINARS, WORKSHOPS<br />
Conferences, seminars, workshops, symposiums, training sessions, etc. are also<br />
included as part of Continuing Education programming possibilities. These are<br />
means of presenting important information within short, concentrated periods of<br />
time. Continuing Education can design any program or training activity, such as<br />
those for professionals who must keep abreast of research trends, new strategies,<br />
and/or new techniques in their fields.<br />
Conferences, seminars, or workshops can be organized upon request utilizing<br />
the facilities and resources of the College’s Educational Conference Center and the<br />
Advanced Technology Center. Classrooms, auditoriums, appropriate support equipment,<br />
satellite dish and teleconferencing equipment are just some of the resources<br />
available for use to accomplish training activities. The Conference Center also includes<br />
the availability of a complete food service to support any training package.<br />
The Continuing Education staff is prepared to design, develop, and implement<br />
complete training programs in cooperation with any interested sponsoring group<br />
or organization and/or any selected training resource specialists. Conferences may<br />
vary in length from just a few hours to a full week and beyond, and they can be<br />
repeated annually, quarterly, monthly or weekly. Examples of training topics include<br />
industrial management, purchasing, communications, industrial safety, office<br />
management, supervision of personnel, hotel/restaurant functions, nursing<br />
review/ refreshers, child care and health care practices.<br />
Continuing Education is also prepared to develop technical, short-term training<br />
packages to meet the needs of industrial and business firms, professional groups<br />
and other civic and community groups. Training can also be arranged through the<br />
