HPE 153-Elementary School Physical Education 2 Lect., 2 Lab., 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />
Emphasis is on program planning, teaching, techniques, the direction and participation<br />
in elementary Physical Education Activities, and the selection of activities<br />
that will help satisfy the needs of the elementary school child. Includes practical<br />
experience in school gymnasium. (Spring semester only.)<br />
HPE 154-Safety and First Aid 1 Lect., 2 Lab., 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />
This course is designed to prepare the student to recognize that an emergency<br />
exists and to prepare the student to make appropriate decisions regarding first aid<br />
care and to act on those decisions. The course will also emphasize the importance<br />
of a safe and healthy lifestyle. Students will have the option of American Red Cross<br />
certification in adult, infant, child CPR, Responding to Emergencies First Aid, and/<br />
or Automated External Defibrillation.<br />
HPE 155-Personal Health 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />
A study of the meaning and significance of physical; mental and social health as<br />
related to the individual and to society stressing the national and personal problems<br />
of drugs, alcohol and tobacco, communicable and non-communicable diseases;<br />
sexual maturity, and marriage reproduction. (On-campus Fall semester only<br />
or Telecourse each semester.)<br />
HPE 160-Introduction To Nutrition 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />
This course is designed to introduce the student to basic, introductory, collegelevel<br />
principles of nutrition. The course will not only allow for the development of<br />
a factual foundation of the science of nutrition but will also encourage the student<br />
to evaluate his/her eating habits and diet.<br />
HPE 201-Personal Training I – Fitness Assessment<br />
and Fitness Equipment 1 Lect., 2 Lab., 2 Sem.-Hrs.<br />
This course will cover fitness goals and workouts, cardiovascular training equipment,<br />
free weight and fixed weight strength training equipment, basic American<br />
College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and International Fitness Professionals Association<br />
(IFPA) Personal Fitness Trainer testing protocols including circumference<br />
measurements, skinfolds, and fitness evaluations and interpretation of charts in<br />
the classroom and LCCC Fitness Center. At the completion of the course, students<br />
will have the opportunity to test for certification as a Personal Trainer through the<br />
IFPA organization, through written and practical examination (separate fee of $200).<br />
HPE 220-Voices in Sport and Society 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />
This course is designed to be a virtual summit conference on sports and society.<br />
Each lesson includes a videotape program, a chapter from a textbook and student<br />
guide, and an optional website component. The videotape programs are designed<br />
to create interest in the lesson topics and include the best of 60 hours of panel discussions<br />
and interviews with notable sports figures. This course will explore relationship<br />
between sport and the world in which it exists.<br />
HPE 230-Badminton 2 Lab., 1 Sem.-Hr.<br />
This course is designed to teach each individual the skills and techniques that<br />
are required to play and enjoy playing badminton.<br />
HPE 231-Advanced Bowling 2 Lab., 1 Sem.-Hr.<br />
To develop a greater skill and technique, knowledge and appreciation of the<br />
activity. Etiquette on the lanes and full understanding of competitive league play is<br />
taught.<br />
HPE 234-Tennis 2 Lab., 1 Sem.-Hr.<br />
This course is designed to teach basic fundamental skills and techniques that<br />
are required to play and enjoy playing the game of tennis.<br />
