EMS 201-Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic Part A 7 Sem.-Hrs.<br />
This is the first part of a three-part program, which follows the National Registry<br />
Curriculum for training Advanced Life Support Technicians for practice under<br />
the direct supervision of a physician. Students are trained in advanced emergency<br />
care with emphasis on preparatory aspects of this field. Course work prepares the<br />
student for the clinical practicum which develops proficiency in those skills learned<br />
in the classroom. The practicum includes both clinical and field training in affiliated<br />
hospitals and advanced life support units.<br />
Prerequisite: -EMS 101.<br />
Corequisites: BIO 125, EMS 208 and EMS 209.<br />
EMS 202-Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic Part B 7 Sem.-Hrs.<br />
This is the second part of a three-part program, which follows the National Registry<br />
Curriculum for training Advanced Life Support Technicians (paramedics) for<br />
practice under the direct supervision of a physician. Students are training in advanced<br />
emergency care with emphasis on trauma and cardiopulmonary related<br />
emergencies. Course work prepares the student for the clinical practicum, which<br />
develops proficiency in those skills learned in the classroom. The practicum includes<br />
both clinical and field training in affiliated hospitals and advanced life support<br />
units.<br />
Pre or Corequisites: EMS 103, EMS 210 and EMS 211.<br />
EMS 203-Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic Part C 7 Sem.-Hrs.<br />
This is the third part of a three-part program, which follows the National Registry<br />
Curriculum for training Advanced Life Support Technicians (paramedics) for<br />
practice under the direct supervision of a physician. Students are trained in advanced<br />
emergency care with emphasis on infant and pediatric related emergencies.<br />
Course work prepares the student for the clinical practicum, which develops<br />
proficiency in those skills learned in the classroom. The practicum includes both<br />
clinical and field training in affiliated hospitals and advanced life support units.<br />
Corequisites: EMS 205, EMS 212.<br />
EMS 204-Emergency Medical Services Management 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />
This class is designed to demonstrate to the student all the aspects and components<br />
of a typical Emergency Services (EMS) System. This class will include the<br />
legislative aspects, medical control and accountability, communications, technology,<br />
and an overall description of numerous functioning EMS Systems.<br />
EMS 205-Advanced Paramedic Practice 5 Sem.-Hrs.<br />
This course is designed to provide a structured review of both paramedic case<br />
work in the field and EMS administrative procedures. The paramedic or student<br />
paramedic will have the opportunity to expand his/her experiential knowledge in<br />
a protected and supervised environment.<br />
EMS 206-Scuba 4 Sem.-Hrs.<br />
This course is designed to prepare emergency rescue personnel for underwater<br />
search and rescue. The course will begin with Basic Scuba Certification and then it<br />
progresses on to underwater search and rescue procedures.<br />
The classroom instruction will be held in a designated class setting; the practical<br />
sessions will be held at a sponsoring area pool, and the in-water portions will be<br />
held in one of the area watersheds.<br />
EMS 207-Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (C.P.R.) 1 Sem.-Hr.<br />
This course is designed to prepare the untrained student in the procedures needed<br />
to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) based upon the National Standards<br />
approved by the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association.<br />
