An introduction to the study of Government and Politics, as well as the structure<br />

and functions of the U.S. Government. Emphasis is given to the roles played<br />

by individuals within the U.S. Political System.<br />

POS 212-State and Local Government 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />

Emphasis is given to the setting, structure, and functions of state and local governments<br />

and the ways in which individual citizens can participate in the system.<br />

POS 213-World Affairs and You 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />

A course designed to provide a practical understanding of international affairs,<br />

with particular emphasis on the foreign relations of the United States, examination of<br />

current issues, the machinery of diplomacy and key personalities on the world stage.<br />

POS 214-The Constitution 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />

This introductory-level political science course on constitutional rights and public<br />

policy includes a series of seminars on controversial issues like capital punishment,<br />

affirmative action, abortion, executive privilege, and national security versus freedom<br />

of the press.<br />

PSYCHOLOGY<br />

PSY 103-General Psychology 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />

Introduction to the study of psychology as the science of human nature including<br />

both the mind and behavior; the phenomena of personality, perception, emotion,<br />

motivation, learning and other topics related to both the physiological and<br />

psychological make-up of the individual will be studied.<br />

PSY 204/CHD 208-Child Psychology 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />

The study of human development and behavior from conception to adolescence.<br />

Subjects considered are the interdependence of the emotional, intellectual, social<br />

and physical development of the child.<br />

Prerequisite: PSY 103.<br />

PSY 210-Educational Psychology 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />

The application of psychology to the classroom situation with emphasis on cognition,<br />

learning personality development, testing methods of teaching, motivation<br />

and individual differences.<br />

PSY 213-Abnormal Psychology 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />

This course is designed to introduce the student to the broad and sometimes<br />

difficult field of abnormal behavior. It will uniquely utilize a multi-dimensional<br />

approach incorporating, but not limited to, the views from sociological, psychological<br />

and biological schools. The student will be introduced to descriptions of<br />

disorders, various casual perspectives and the management of behavior considered<br />

maladaptive to effective functioning in daily life. Major topics will include<br />

(but are not limited to): depression, schizophrenia, personality disorders, anxiety,<br />

age-related problems, prevention strategies, crime, and sexual deviations.<br />

PSY 217-Developmental Psychology 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />

Presentation of the theoretical models and basic principles of development<br />

throughout life. An emphasis will be placed on current research findings and their<br />

applications to actual situations.<br />

Prerequisite: PSY 103.<br />
