Advanced placement examinations can be taken only once, by qualified candidates.
Students enrolled in an NLN accredited nursing program, who are seeking
COLLEGE-LEVEL EXAMINATION PROGRAM (CLEP)
The CLEP program is an option for those who have had learning experience in
non-formal settings, e.g., on the job; travel and vacations, etc.; and/or who have
studied on their own. It is possible for a student to earn up to 30 credits through the
CLEP examinations, TACKLE (see below), and transfer credits.
The CLEP offers two test options for the students:
Option I General Exams include material covered in English Composition, Humanities,
Natural Sciences, Social Sciences/History, and Mathematics
courses. Students must achieve the mean score in order to be awarded
credit.
NOTE: Although LCCC will accept General Exam credit, not all
colleges will do so.
Option II Subject exams cover material taught in specific under-graduate courses
with similar titles in many colleges and universities. The minimum score
for awarding credit in respective courses must be equal to a grade of
“C” in accordance with recommendations of the American Council on
Education.
LCCC strongly recommends that students consider taking OPTION II -
SUBJECT EXAMS.
For additional information about CLEP, please contact the office of Career Planning/Placement
located in Building #9, Room 921.
All students taking the CLEP (College-Level Examination Program) test to receive
credit for English Composition 101 shall be required to take the CLEP Subject
Examination in Freshman College Composition with the Essay Section.
*See Writing Competency Exam Requirement, p. 45.
LIFE/LEARNING EXPERIENCE (TACKLE)*
Credit from non-accredited institutions and/or credit for life experiences may
be granted on the basis of assessment. Students identify their learning experiences
and document those experiences, as they relate to the college curricula, with the
guidance of the Assessment Center. The program gives recognition to the belief
that learning takes place in many different environments as well as in the classroom.
The Assessment Center will approve the granting of such credit, in accordance
with college policy.
*See Writing Competency Exam Requirement, p. 45.
DISTANCE LEARNING (TeleCollege)
Distance learning describes instructional methods in which the interaction between
the facilitator and learner primarily takes place electronically. Electronic communication
may take the form of audio, video, e-mail, chat, teleconferencing, or
the Internet. Distance learning opportunities at Luzerne County Community College
range from short-term training to undergraduate courses for college credit.
Currently two (2) types of distance learning methods are available through
Luzerne County Community College: video and on-line. With the first method,
