CHE 152-General Chemistry II 3 Lect., 3 Lab., 1 Recitation, 4 Sem.-Hrs.<br />

Includes the following topics: the colloidal state; chemical kinetics; ionic equilibrium;<br />

nuclear chemistry; electrochemistry; properties of selected metallic and<br />

non-metallic elements; and some organic chemistry.<br />

CHE 175-Chemistry for Health Sciences 4 Lect., 4 Sem.-Hrs.<br />

A comprehensive course designed to review the essentials of general, organic<br />

and basic biochemistry; emphasis is placed on proteins, carbohydrates, lipids and<br />

some biochemical pathways. Enzymes are given special attention as to their role in<br />

health and disease.<br />

CHE 251-Organic Chemistry I 3 Lect., 3 Lab., 1 Recitation, 4 Sem.-Hrs.<br />

An introduction to the chemistry of the carbon compounds, particularly the<br />

aliphatic compounds; special emphasis is given to structural theory and mechanism<br />

reactions; laboratory work includes properties and preparation of organic<br />

compounds.<br />

Prerequisite: CHE 152 (grade C or better).<br />

CHE 252-Organic Chemistry II 3 Lect., 3 Lab., 1 Recitation, 4 Sem.-Hrs<br />

Special emphasis on the chemistry of aromatic compounds; laboratory work<br />

includes the synthesis and analysis of organic compounds.<br />

Prerequisite: CHE 251 (grade C or better).<br />

CHILD DEVELOPMENT<br />

CHD 100-Introduction to Early Childhood Education.* 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />

This course examines the history and rationale for early childhood programs. It<br />

provides an introduction to child development, the types and philosophies of children’s<br />

programs, and the role of the early childhood professional. Practical experience in a<br />

children’s program for a total of thirty hours is an integral part of the course.<br />

Prerequisite for all other CHD classes.<br />

Corequisite: CHD 199.<br />

CHD 101-Infants & Toddlers* 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />

This course studies children from birth to age three. It combines theories of infant<br />

and toddler development with activities and techniques to use in programs for<br />

young children.<br />

Prerequisite: CHD 199.<br />

Corequisite: CHD 100.<br />

CHD 199-Early Childhood Regulations 0 Sem.-Hrs<br />

This course ensures that students entering the Child Development Program<br />

meet the required regulations for employees in the field. Students who register<br />

for CHD 100 (Introduction to Early childhood Education) will be required to register<br />

for CHD 199. This is a Pass/Repeat course. Note: Current requirements are<br />

the Department of Public Welfare Child Abuse Clearance and the Pennsylvania<br />

State Police Criminal Clearance.<br />

Corequisite: CHD 100.<br />

CHD 201-Children’s Music & Movement** 3 Sem.-Hrs.<br />

This course explores the importance of movement, music and rhythm activities<br />

for children. It includes methods and appropriate materials for developing the<br />

physical and musical capabilities of the young child.<br />

Prerequisite: CHD 100.<br />
