COMPENDIUM OF CONFLICTS IN <strong>UGANDA</strong><br />

One participant said;<br />

“They took us to some place called Nubulengele which was<br />

a gazetted area. It was undesirable and uncomfortable. Not<br />

a single NGO has come to help us since we were returned to<br />

Karamoja.”<br />

In Hoima, participants lamented that the discovery of oil in the region has caused people<br />

in these areas to be displaced from their land without receiving adequate compensation.<br />

Participants in Hoima also discussed conflicts between host communities and refugees,<br />

who were said to overload the capacity of social services in the district.<br />

Participants also discussed forms of forced displacement unrelated to human violence.<br />

In Mbarara, participants discussed displacement caused by magma from the volcanic<br />

Muhabura Mountain and displacement due to landslides. Similarly, in Bulambuli<br />

participants recalled displacement due to landslides, floods and droughts and reported<br />

on conflicts between host communities and displaced people.<br />
