- When properly positioned, the distal port measures pulmonary artery pressure<br />

(~25/10 mmHg) and the proximal port measures right atrial pressure (~0-3 mmHg).<br />

- Because of the large compliance of the pulmonary circulation, it provides an indirect<br />

measure of the left atrial pressure & left ventricular end diastolic pressure →<br />

normally = 5-13 mmHg<br />

o Pulmonary oedema + PWP > 18 mmHg → cardiogenic pulmonary edema (e.g<br />

LVF,M.S)<br />

o Pulmonary edema + PWP ≤ 18 mmHg → ARDS.<br />
