C/P of hyperthyroidism :
o Symptoms :
1) Toxic symptoms :
- Polyphagia with loss of weight.
- Hot flushes & intolerance of hot weather.
- Sweating from palms & dorsum of the hands which are warm.
- Palpitation, exertional dyspnoea
- Fine tremors / hands &tongue.
- Tiredness, irritability, nervousness.
- Diarrhea /loose stools.
- Oligomenorrhoea/amenorrhoea in females.
2) Neck swelling & pressure symptoms (in goiter) :
- Dyspnoea (pressure on trachea).
- Dysphagia (pressure on oesophagus).
- Change of voice ( pressure on recurrent laryngeal nerve).
o Signs :
1) Warm sweaty palms & dorsum of the hands.
2) Fine tremors in outstretched hands.
3) Palmar erythema.
4) Proximal myopathy.
5) Tachycardia (mainly sleeping pulse).
6) Neck palpable swelling moves up & down with swallowing (goiter).
7) Clubbing fingers (thyroid acropachy)
8) Pretibial myxoedema (non-pitting oedema) in Grave`s disease
9) Eye signs (ophthalmopathy)
