8) Novel Coronavirus
- Human coronavirus is associated with severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS)
- Transmitted from animal host (e.g civet cat),from person to person (resp) in epidemics.
- Incubation period 10 days.
• High risk group :
1) Elderly.
2) Those with underlying lung disease.
3) Other comorbid conditions.
• Features :
- The following in a traveler coming from Arabian peninsula & surroundings
(KSA,Iraque,Bahreen) ,or H/O close contact (ie > 15 min face to face) with patient
1) Fever > 38 0 C , SOB , cough.
2) Radiological (CXR opacity) evidence of pneumonia or SARS.
• Investigations :
PCR : the main test.
CXR : bilateral opacities.
• TTT :
No specific TTT
As ARDS (resp. support + ventilation , circulatory support, steroids , ABx, β ++ ).
