II. Mycobacterium leprae<br />

Leprosy: Hansen's disease (HD) is a chronic disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae<br />

and Mycobacterium lepromatosis.<br />

• Features:<br />

Nodular skin lesions.<br />

Erythremaous raised plaque like lesions in arms and legs<br />

Left untreated, leprosy can be progressive, causing permanent damage to the skin,<br />

nerves, limbs, and eyes.<br />

• Management:<br />

Skin biopsy and needle test in cold area (ear lobuleand elbow)<br />

1) Pauci-bacillary leprosy (5 lesions) : Rifampicin + Clofazimine + for 12 months<br />

Erythematous raised plaque like lesions<br />

Nodular skin lesions<br />
