a) Ophthalmic branch :
‣ Pass in the lateral wall of cavernous sinus & passes to the orbit
through superior orbital fissure
‣ Carries sensations from conjunctiva,cornea (corneal reflex),upper
eyelid, forehead,nose & scalp
b) Maxillary branch :
‣ It enters the cranial cavity through foramen rotundum
‣ Carries sensations from check,lateral aspect of the nose ,lower
eyelid ,upper lip ,upper jaw & teeth.
c) Mandibular branch :
‣ It enters the cranial cavity through foramen ovale
‣ Carries both motor & sensory fibers
‣ Sensory from auricle,external auditory meatus,skin over the
mandible,check,lower lip,tongue, floor of the mouth,lower teeth
‣ Motor to muscles of mastication
Motor division :
- Start in motor nucleus in the pons whose fibers pass laterally to
join the mandibular branch which leave the cranial cavity through
foramen ovale.
