a) Ophthalmic branch :<br />

‣ Pass in the lateral wall of cavernous sinus & passes to the orbit<br />

through superior orbital fissure<br />

‣ Carries sensations from conjunctiva,cornea (corneal reflex),upper<br />

eyelid, forehead,nose & scalp<br />

b) Maxillary branch :<br />

‣ It enters the cranial cavity through foramen rotundum<br />

‣ Carries sensations from check,lateral aspect of the nose ,lower<br />

eyelid ,upper lip ,upper jaw & teeth.<br />

c) Mandibular branch :<br />

‣ It enters the cranial cavity through foramen ovale<br />

‣ Carries both motor & sensory fibers<br />

‣ Sensory from auricle,external auditory meatus,skin over the<br />

mandible,check,lower lip,tongue, floor of the mouth,lower teeth<br />

‣ Motor to muscles of mastication<br />

Motor division :<br />

- Start in motor nucleus in the pons whose fibers pass laterally to<br />

join the mandibular branch which leave the cranial cavity through<br />

foramen ovale.<br />
