In normal lung :<br />

- The V:Q ratio is greater in apical than basal segments of the lung when<br />

upright and at rest.<br />

- Intrapleural pressure required to allow the lung to inflate is not more than 4<br />

cmH2O.<br />

- Resting pulmonary blood flow in an adult is around 5L/min.<br />

- Normal pulmonary circulation characterized by<br />

- Low flow rate - Low pressure - High compliance of vessels<br />

- Cartilage disappears in the terminal bronchioles.<br />
